Default Unlocking Bold 9000 - How To Question

Please Login to Remove!

I received a free unlock code through the Crackberry promo last week. Last night I followed the instructions that were provided with the unlock code:

Blackberry 9000 BOLD 8900 Javelin 8800 8300 8310 8320 Curve Unlock Code Entry Instructions
How to Enter Unlock Codes:
***** You must have a SIM card in your phone to complete these steps ( Can be active or inactive ) *****

1. Go to settings menu => and then Options
2. Select Advanced options => and then Sim card
3. Type MEPD using your Blackberry keyboard (NOTE: You will not see any text appear on the screen while typing MEPD)
4. Type MEP then [ALT BUTTON] then 2 on your Blackberry keyboard (NOTE: You will not see any text appear on the screen while typing MEPD)
5. You should be presented with a prompt "Enter Network MEP Code". Type in the unlock code received from CellUnlock.net and press in the track wheel / jog dial to confirm
6. Your phone is now unlocked

Not sure how to tell if the phone is actually unlocked. Someone on HoFo told me to check Options/Advanced Options/SIM Card - type in MEPD, and network field should say "Disabled", if unlocked. Mine says "Active", so by this test, it is still unlocked

1) Can anyone confirm if this test is corrrect, or otherwise how to tell if the BB is unlocked?

2) How many attempts can I make to input the unlock code, before the phone locks itself up? Does anyone know? The phone is activated on Rogers.

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes it remains locked.
2. Ten attempts and the device will only lock itself permanently to Rogers.

Good luck. You should get support bu whomever privuded your code.

I believe if it is an ATT device you have to do it without sim card in device!

Its a Rogers device. they mention this in the post, and stated carrier at the left.

Phone is Rogers branded. Per the instructions I pasted above, the SIM card needs to be in the device. The instructions were not carrier specific, but clearly state the SIM must be installed (active or inactive)

Just and FYI...I unlocked my ATT Bold with the sim card in the device and it worked perfectly fine.
