I have a little problem with my Bold Blackberry. My email client is Lotus Notes. From time to time, when I read an email on my BB, it does not show as read in Notes, even though it is set to do that on the BB. I have the version 244 on the BB, re-activated the device a few times, even changed the device because of a scrool button issue. I am beginning to run out of solutions. Any advice for me?

On your device, perform the following:

• Go to your main "Messages" icon
• Press the Menu/BlackBerry key, choose OPTIONS
• Click on EMAIL SETTINGS
• Be sure "Message Services" is set to "Desktop"
• Press BACK, saving any changes
• Go to "Email Reconciliation"
• Again, "Message Services" should be set to "Desktop"
• Set options to:
• Delete On: Prompt
• Wireless Reconcile: On
• On Conflicts: Mailbox Wins

With these options set, if you delete a message on your BlackBerry, it will prompt you if you also want to remove it from your mailbox (ie: Lotus Notes), if there are any conflicts, your Lotus Notes mailbox will be the "master" per-se.

Let me know how that works out for you... Also, if you manage the BES, or know who does, check to make sure the "Blackberry Syncronization Service" is running on the BES, and isn't crapping out on you.

Yeah, I checked all those settings before. Still have problems but it works for a while after I re-actibate the unit and then I start having problems again.

On the BES side, the following are helpful.

1. Used Full-Text Indexing for your mail file on the server. (RIM always suggests this to me, as I am the BES admin for my corporation).
2. Only try to keep 1000 documents or less in your 'Inbox' view. Either move the others to folders when they get old or when you act on them, or use Archiving to move them out.
3. Have your BES admin keep up on the Domino maintenance releases and the BES maintenance releases.

4. for BES 4.1.x, reference KB05219 and enable State Database pruning. also reference KB11664. You don't want the State Databases to get too large (>20MB, IMO) or too old (IMO, RIM has no stance on that).

5. for BES, reference KB02207 and schedule weekly or monthly maintenance tasks for the BES server's mail files on the server. I also periodically using the nupdall -X program on Domino to rebuild the Full-Text indexes for the BES users (the four tasks I do weekly in order are: nfixup -F -L -O, nupdall -R, ncompact -c, amd nupdall -R).

6. We typically purge the State Databases (delete user, manually delete state database, and re-add the user to the BES) when A.) two years have elapsed or B.) the user gets a new handheld - which ever comes last. It helps keep them "fresh," otherwise I notice odd problems creep in (where the handhelds and the server fails to reconcile items in a timely fashion, i.e., read/unread, deletions, sent items, etc).

7. if you have current maintenance (T-Support from RIM) your adminsitrator can call RIM and get advise on getting this to reconcile correctly.

8. Make sure both the BES and the Domino server each have 4GB of memory (it just helps things run smoother IMO). I got this advise here in the BES Admin section of this site, it is has helped reduce some of the odd behavior. Domino is quite memory hungry.
