Hi all -

I'm trying to define exactly what video formats the Bold requires - not just codecs as this information is everywhere, and too generalizing to boot.

As an example almost every time I've tried to transcode typical downloadable Xvid/Divx/etc videos from the internet, I get either a green screen and audio, or black screen and audio. Yet yesterday I was able to transcode directly from my Quantum of Solace DVD into an h264 MP4 that plays back flawlessly on my 9000 using the DVD ripping program's iPhone encoding profile. When I try converting a desktop video with the same settings, I get blackscreen..

I've tried every format I can think of.. different containers, resolutions, codecs, bitrates.. it seems to be entirely the luck of the draw whether a file works or not. Is there some obscure command-line switch function that PCs perform flawlessly and causes handhelds and media players to puke, like QPel quantizing?

Also, could you please update your profile to your current model/carrier. It shows you're still using the 8703.

Thank you, that is more detail on bitrates and framerates than I had previously though I question its accuracy on pretty much everything else. The sample videos stored on the Bold(BMW M3 and Speed Racer commercials) are h264 codec files, and as I stated in my previous post - I've just transcoded QoS in h264 (700Mb file at 480x272) and that file plays perfectly. Yet that FAQ claims h264 is not supported. The resolutions are a different matter definitely - you can always upscale or downscale during playback if you have the CPU horsepower.

Also an article on sample transcoding/ripping applications that would offer a guide or pre-fab formatting profile for various Blackberries would be really useful. They all offer multiple i-gimmick profiles and some even for Treos, Palms, PocketPCs..
