Can i make my LED flash any other colour than red when i get messages etc?

Not without 3rd party software I believe.
And I cant remember the name, something like BBAlerts or BBlights.

Yes. Also Beejive changes the colors if you are using their IM program.

Alertmatrix will change colors and you can configure for pin/email/sms/calls as well as down to specific users.

bbalerts is program referred to above but many have found it hit or miss working on 4.6 iirc
