Default Move Lock function to from "A" to another key...

Please Login to Remove!

I recently acquired an at&t Bold through my work. By default the "A" key locks the device. I'd like to move that function to the Z key to free up A as a speed dial. I haven't found a way to assign the lock function to another key.

Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, it's built into the OS to be that key. When viewing the Speed Dial list, you can't edit or change those.

I guess that's why I couldn't figure out or find out how to do it.

Bummer. I love it when engineers are convinced they know what's best for us but they don't.

Thanks for saving me from wasting any more time trying to figure out the answer to my question.

No problem. I'm definitely a fan of being able to customize to the fullest. So I agree that little things like that are a tad annoying. Sure you can put it there, but at least let us change it if we want to.

It took me a VERY long time to stop trying to speed dial an old contact I had assigned to the "A" key on prior models. I would think most of us that use speed dial have the same entries assigned to the same key for years. Finally got it after about two months!

I'm in that exact situation. On my 8700 I had the A key assigned to a work contact who's name starts with A. I've been more-or-less successful in breaking the habit of calling him with the A key but I miss having the convience.

Maybe I'll just have to assign him to Z and get in the habit of calling him Zoro.

Now I dont know how to move the Lock to another key but you can reassign the A key to what ever you like by following my instructions at this post.

Lock System

for some reason they don't make it very intuitive known how to remove them and assign a contact. but it works for reassigning a predefined hotkey to a contact.

Interesting Caspan. Thanks.

I'm going to have to give some thought to using your method though, because I do like having the option of using one specific key to lock the phone.

yeah same here I love the lock feature. I got the feature back after a OS update because it is a system default when I updated my OS it reverted it back...

Maybe in a future firmware update RIM, in their infite wisdom, will let us end users move that lock feature to a key of our choice.

That is a funny quirk. It would be good if they gave you the option for any of the keys with either a contact, or give you the list of 'functions' that are available for the speed dial.

That is the way it should be just like the convince keys on the sides have a menu of programs you can preform by pressing them.

I configured my right convenience key to be my lock device key. I will now use Caspan's method to reassign the A key.

I would also like to know if we can do these kinds of function assignments on other models?
