I just got a blackberry at a new job, and their IT guy sometimes is not so good. I don't know what BES version they have (anyone know if I can find out from my blackberry), but the blackberry is on 4.6.0.162. Should I upgrade? Specifically I seem not to be able to open all attachments- no PDFs, and some Word docs don't work.
Any other advice about versions gratefully received.

I also just received a new Bold from work. Mine has firmware v4.6.0.167. I don't have any of the problems you're experiencing. My guess is your issue is not your firmware version but rather permissions set during your IT's enterprise activation.

Have you at least asked your IT guy for help? When using a company device through a BES you're usually at your company's IT's mercy when it comes to what will work and what won't on your company handheld.

It all depends what they allow. IT policy's can be very restricting. Do you have the ability to download/view embedded html rich emails? That is still not "on" despite having my 8700 @ 4.5. The standard os install(stock) comes with a 2007 office viewer for ppt,doc,xls If I recall correctly

I'm not sure if you were replying to me or the OP. In my case, my stock 9000 did indeed come with a .doc and .xls viewer, and they both work ok.

Yet I just discovered that out IT department apparently changed a policy today without telling anyone. The new policy allows me to PIN to other users on the BES, and to receive PINs from anyone. But users not on our BES can't receive my PINs although those messages show as delivered.

It's a company device and compan IT policy controls. I am trying to get relief from the PIN situation I descriebe from IT. And that's why I suggested that the OP contact his IT departement to see if they can provide a solution. Or at least tell him it is the way it is.
