Now I've got my Bold with GPS, but to me it doesn't seem to work. I remember getting it to work once while I was driving and I was able to map my progress via Google Maps. Now whenever I go to Options|Advanced Option|GPS and tell it to refresh. It goes away for awhile, then comes back with some coordinates but the fix time always says April 3, 2009, so I'm not sure if its updating my position or not. When I go into Google Maps, sometimes it shows me as being in New York, when I'm in Kingston, Jamaica. Other times while in Google Maps and I tell it to show my location it shows my position from 1000m and says waiting on GPS and it does that all the time. So I'm not sure. Is there a sure fire way to prove that my GPS unit is working and communicating with some satellites?

Make sure you have a BB data plan. Make sure you have Location Services On.

Be outside with a clear view of the sky and let it search. Could take as long as 20 minutes if it has been awhile since the last lock on or you have moved a considerable distance from where it thinks you are or from the last position.

GoogleMaps uses cell tower triangulation to locate you while it waits for GPS to lock on, hence the position error of 1000 meters or more.

The key is to be outside with a clear view of the sky for the initial lock on and close to a window afterward if you are inside. The device needs to "see" the satellites to get a position fix.

Ok dubdub, thanks, will give it a try. I do have a data plan, unlimited data plan. Will give your suggestion a try.
