Hello, I have a customer who has a BES handset. He has BPS this is quite new and we have only managed to get the BES working properly today. Anyway a few hours after the BPS and the emails started working on my customers device out of the blue a password prompt popped up asking to set a new password. He couldn't get past this so ended up setting it and then we tried to remove it. However when you go to security settings the option to disable the password has a red cross next to it and you can not change it. Even the time that it works after is unchangable. For example my blackberry I can enable a password but also make it so that it does not require one untill an hour has lapsed. He can only go to a maximum of 10 minues on his.

Any clues about why this happening or how we change it?

There is an IT Policy being sent from the BES to the handset that is controlling the password. The only way to change it on the handset is to change the IT Policy to let him change it.

Well none of the other 6 handsets have been affected. Can you have an IT policy for just one handset on BPS?

Not sure about BPS, but on 'regular' BES yes, you can.

And yes on Blackberry Professional you can have different IT policies on different devices.

I bought my BB on Ebay and had a similar problem. Back up your Bold. I did not have to use the back up but just in case. This did the trick for me so far... I am now was able disable my password

settings ->options->security options->general settings->scroll down to services-> select-> scroll up to wipe handhold

You cannot remove the IT Policy by simply using the 'Wipe Handheld' command. That only delete the data (and severs the connection to the BES). The IT Policy still remains after a wipe.
