Debranded (i mean, what? no i didn't), battery life is no better in 2G than 3G

I can't seem to notice that it's any better forced to 2G than 3G. Nothing special running, just the default applications. Call quality seems identical in 2G, and data speeds are not noticeably faster unless tethered.
me: AT&T Bold 9000 with all the goodies.
g/f: T-Mobile Curve 8900
2G only has yielded:
- at least 2 days battery (no calls)
- app syncs to server (non native) no errors
- dropped calls , can't remember any
- lousy call audio quality. And the Audio Codec resets after ReBoot
But I suspect ATT may be modifying things to make this a moot issue.
My Bold is de-branded as well and I have the same problem. I actually have mine forced on 3G when I am in the office. I noticed my big battery drain was from my phone bouncing around from 2G to 3G. I am on BES and get at least 100 emails per day. I struggle to make it through the day if I have too many phone conversations, especially in the car over bluetooth. I ended up buying a second battery. I don't worry about making it through the day anymore. I am convinced that if you are a power user and want to use the phone with limited sacrifices you will struggle to make it through the day.
