Sorry searched this, but couldn't find an answer. So sorry if this has been covered.

New to Blackberry from Treo. Having issue with exchange. Email are received to phone no prob. However emails are shown to be "read" on desktop when BB does sync (not physical sync). Before I can even look at the email on BB my desktop shows read.

I do not like this. How can I change so that the emails on desktop are only read when I read them. I have the desktop set to read emails once I have opened them, so this is annoying and have missed an email or two.

my exchange email goes to my bb just fine. when it does get sent to my bb, my desktop outlook shows the emails as "read", even though I have not even opened outlook. Outlook shouldn't show them as "read" until I open them.

If you read the message on the device, it will mark as read in Outlook.

If you're doing bi-directional synchronization then if you read it on the device then it will be read within outlook as they are processing information from the same exchange mailbox. You need to turn it off on the device if you don't want that to happen.

dc/dc - yes I understand that, and that is not the case. I dont even have to look at the phone and the emails are "read" in outlook.

I can watch the email in outlook go "read" when the bb updates to the server.

i dont touch either the bb or the desktop. when emails get sent to bb, outlook says they have been read. I have not opened emails on either device and outlook has them as read and bb as unread.

that would be great if it did that, but it dosen't. It is already read in outlook before i can even read it on the bb

Since you aren't on a BES, could you explain how your emails are setup to be delivered to your BlackBerry? Might help in narrowing down a solution.

I believe there is no solution your problem. You may just have to live with it.

i just setup the email on the BB through the email setup, entered my address and password. It connected to my server and done. Now before you go and say that is my problem, know that there are 4 other BB setup this way in my office and none of them have this issue. (3 curves, 2 bolds & 8800)

Had the same issue. I think messages get marked as read as soon as they are delivered to the blackberry server. Have not found a solution to it. Actually since I was getting sick of receiving duplicate emails (another annoyance of BIS + Exchange), I deleted the account on my bb.
