Orange Unique(UMA) on Blackberry Bold

We had a user with a 8320 Curve who has no Orange network coverage at home so uses UMA to connect. The user needs a 3G capable phone as he often travels to Japan and for some reason the 8320 does not support 3G. So we have got him a 8900 Bold, but can not get UMA to work on it?

I spoke to Orange today and they have said that UMA is disabled on the 8900 because its unreliable, they are waiting for a software fix from Blackberry. Does anyone else have this problem or know when the fix will be out?

The software version is 4.6.0.221, would it be worth upgrading to 4.6.0.247? would this fix it?

The 9000 does not support UMA, and I don't believe there are plans to support it.

Is UMA very important for them?

Yepp no network coverage at home. Is there a blackberry that definetly supports UMA and 3G?

No. Not at this time.

Did you get him an 8900 or a Bold (9000). They are not the same. The 8900 is the updated Curve and is NOT 3G (only EDGE). see here:
BlackBerry - Specifications - BlackBerry Curve 8900 Specs

The 9000 (Bold) is 3G, but no UMA. I can also verify that it works in Japan (and Korea), having used it there (the Bold, that is).

Yes sorry I meant the 9000. It escapes me why RIM have not made a phone with both. It was the same with the 8310 and 8320, most other manufacturs put both Wi-Fi and GPS on their models but RIM seem not to be able todo this.

The 9000 has WiFi, but it is not capable of doing voice calling over the WiFi radio.
