Default OS: 9000 4.6.0.451/4.6.0.266 (Multilanguage) - 04-29-2009, 06:53 PM

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.451
Multilanguage; contains English
From Vodafone UK; This will load to any carrier's 9000.

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.451 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.6.0.451
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.6.0.266
  • Software Platform: 4.0.0.223
  • File name: 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel451_PL4.0.0.223_A4.6.0.266_Vodaf one_UK.exe
  • File size: 96.67MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download the OS file here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...05D7C424EBAE5F

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the AppLoader says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Previous OS version here:

Will work with any carrier. Just delete the vendor.xml file before the upgrade.

Installed, and BES activated too... seems fine, I can not spot anything yet that has changed since last release - such a shame that we do not have access to release notes.

I was not very happy with the previous OS, which for me was 9000M_PBr4.6.0_rel418_PL4.0.0.206_A4.6.0.247.exe ... I felt that I had more call drop-outs than with previous installs, plus the home wi-fi connection seems to be sporadic - and the battery seemed to degrade faster too.

Let's see what this newer release will do!

I don't notice a difference between this and the 266 beta, but that is fine, since it is very stable and very responsive. Battery seems the same as 247.

.266 is .266 regardless if it is the beta version or the carrier released version.

Looking for feedback on this version versus 247.

I tried the beta 5.0 and it was way too slow so I downgraded to 4.6.0.247. Will do the 266 gig over the weekend.

Thanks,

Mark

Just upgraded from .247. Got rid of the junk with CrackMem and then DM 5 for the rest. Seemed quicker than usual, with the backup option unchecked about 15 minutes all in all.

Still early days but memory after a few pulls is up to 51.8 vs 47.3 (both after idling for a few minutes), pictures on the memory card load up faster and after a pull it takes about a minute to get to the security check vs about 2-3 minutes on .247.

BUT...Did get an error ("uncaught exception error service in use" or something, thats all I remember) after the first two pulls but once I restored my backup and restarted it was no more! Figured it was probably one of the 13 apps installed which needed the restore for my custom settings.

I just upgraded to this from .247... I don't like how everytime I do a battery pull, my time doesn't get saved... I have to set it again.

I've loaded .266 had to do a battery pull after it was loaded to restore the calendar and the home screen image. Mind you the boot time was less then 2 mins. Amazing!

It could be nothing... but since this upgrade I have finished a busy day with 50% battery remaining - this never happened with the previous release. Me thinks this is nicer to the battery

Question Calendar Invites - 05-01-2009, 08:57 AM

I just upgraded my .266 beta with the final .266 using DM 5 with Windows 7 RC1 7100, and the upgrade sort of went okay. The only thing that didn't get loaded was all my calendar info.

Not a big deal...just had to input everything again. But now I notice that when I make a new calendar entry, there is no option to invite attendee's. Is this something that is new with the OS or what?

You loaded the same OS. .266 is .266 regardless if it's a beta or an official carrier release. I feel like I already said this once in this thread

Take a look here:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...dispelled.html

Quote:
6. I loaded a "beta" and now my carrier has released the same version. Do I need to reload from my carrier so I don't have a beta?

No. If the version numbers match, then there is NO difference between the version that you loaded that wasn't yet released and the version that's official from a carrier's (even your carrier's) website. If anything was to change in the OS RIM would issue it a new version number. In this case, you just magically went from "beta" to "official."

Well, when I installed the release OS, it said that the CORE files needed upgrading.

But that wasn't my real question.....is the invite thing gone in the calendar? Or is it just my OS that was screwed during the upgrade? I can't even sync my calendar to my Outlook anymore....just contacts.

Now the option to invite attendee is under the menu buttom, when you are at the subject option, hit menu and you get the extra invitation

My upgrade must have gotten screwed up as that isn't even listed when I do that. Must of had something to do when re-loading everything. I'll trying doing a downgrade, then upgrade again and see if that fixes my problem.

If your computer did a normal backup during the update process, you should be able to go back and extract that calendar info and simply reload it on to your device. I make it a practice to force a backup prior to upgrading the OS, which in effect gives me two backups in case one gets messed up. In fact, after this upgrade there was no calendar data on my device, but since I had it saved, it was a snap to restore.

why aren't your guys calendars synced up to outlook? Then have that saved, if the calendar is so important you really should do that.

Upgrading now - stuck at the "Wait for device initialization" - red light on the bold, nothing else going on. Will leave it for a while and update once it changes.

UPDATE: Battery pull resolved the red light/waiting. Went back to normal and completed. Just going through activation and we should be back to normal!
