Default shortcut to compose new SMS

Please Login to Remove!

When disabling the ' Dial from homescreen" , you can press M for messages and then C for compose, but it always compase an email, using the default email address.
Is there any shortcut ( a letter or 2 may be) from the homescreen to start composing SMS ?

No, there is no SMS shortcut. It would be nice to make one of the convenience side keys open a new SMS, but for now the Blackberry OS doesn't include it.

under applications - menu - show all
is an icon called compose.
this allows selection of a contact, hit the menu button and select mms, sms, email etc and compose and send.
the great thing is it remembers the last type of message you sent.
so if you send only sms to one contact it will always remember that. if you happen to email that contact, the default will be changed and you need to hit menu on highlighted contact and reselect sms.

Thank you , that is a good solution, but how can I take this to the homescreen level ? or assign a HW button ?

you highlight the compose icon, click menu-hide and it will unhide it.
then you can click menu-move to folder-home
then click menu on highlighted icon, move-move to where you want it in the top 6 icons and click trackball.

strange. when i hit C from home screen the phone does what midnightraven says- it does txt or email based on what was done the last time you picked that person. i've heard of this before on the boards but haven't run across C only composing an email.

Yup as I just found C is the shortcut for the compose icon.
so does as described earlier.

I, and i would assume like many others have dial from home screen ON as its convient, so the icon is the best way to go.

There is also a program called QSMS that assigns the Q key to composing an SMS message. I use that for quickly composing a text message from the home screen.

You can get it at berrycoder.com using your BlackBerry browser.

Question Sending a text/Email message

Once you've composed an SMS or Email, is there a shortcut to send it? Instead of having to go into the menu and select send? Like the shortcut in Outlook where just press ALT+ENTER and the message gets sent...?

No, there isn't a shortcut for sending the message. You have to choose send via the menu.

If you have dial by name enabled at the home screen level, you can do this:
1. Start typing the person's name.
2. When it's selected, press the BlackBerry button, then press S, then press the trackball.

Try using Vlingo. The free version app allows you to prompt for text via voice recognition then just type in your text. Or you can purchase the app and use speech to text with the press of one smart key.

QSMS works great. And the good thing about this one is that it's an application so you can set it as a convenience key.
