Welcome to the forums. If its unlocked then you can use it on any carrier. The carrier recommendation would probably be more weighted on pricing, as we don't know what your spending power is, so we could say go with Verizon, but your spending power might not be in line with Verizon's packages

This is the worst example you could have possibly given.
Verizon isn't even a possibility since you can't use the Bold on their network at all.

An unlocked Bold would be compatible with a GSM carrier in the US, such as AT&T or T-Mobile.

To the OP... look at AT&T or T-Mobile.
Both will work fine with your device.

You cannot use it on Verizon as Verizon is a CDMA carrier. It's a different technology. The Bold is a GSM device. T-Mobile and AT&T will most likely be your best bets. You should be able to test out their networks for 14 - 30 days depending on their policy. I am not sure how coverage is for those companies in Jersey. I know there are users from Jersey that frequent this forum and will probably chime in with some insight.

Also, welcome to the forums.

Coverage is first and foremost IMO. You're going to want reliable coverage for where you live, work, and travel.

The pricing is similar between both carriers.
The main difference you'll notice is that you won't be able to use the 3G feature of the Bold if you go with T-Mobile.

AT&T will allow you to take advantage of all of the features of your Bold, including 3G.

T-Mobile's 3G network uses a different wireless frequency, and it's not one that the Bold supports.

Pre-paid won't give you any data features on the BlackBerry.
If it were me... I'd subscribe to a BIS data plan (about $30 per month) and you'll get all the data features on the BlackBerry. (Web Browsing, Email, PIN messaging, BlackBerry Messenger, IM, etc.)

If you only need to use phone and SMS with the occasional web browsing, then you can get away with a pre-paid plan and use the WiFi browser on the device when you're near a WiFi network.

Your needs will determine what is best for you.
Don't let anyone tell you that you NEED to get a data plan. It's your choice.

No, you'll need a calling plan as well. Choose the lowest amount of minutes per month.
I don't know what that is or what it costs.

You don't need a texting plan if you don't want one.

My best guess is that you're looking around $60-$70 per month in total.
