Question AT&T Roaming 3G in India?

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know if 3G is available to AT&T customers in Mumbai and New Delhi?

I read about some local providers and they have started 3G for past few months, just wondering if it available to roamers from US or is it for new customers within this mobile circuits?

If it is available, roamers can use it in most cases.

My recent travelers reported no 3G roaming in Mumbai...this was 2 weeks ago.

MTNL is rolling out 3G in Mumbai but it's just getting started. Might not even be available yet. However, when it is available roaming there will reap the 3G benefits. BSNL will have 3G in other parts of the country. It should all be on the 2100 MHz GSM frequency.

3G is launched on MTNL, but as of now i have not heard anyone who uses MTNL, using 3G.

Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance, TataIndicom, Loop are NOT on 3G yet. As far as I know, 3G in Mumbai is virtually non-existent.

Thanks for all your answers folks. So I should not expect any 3G in MTNL territories of New Delhi and Mumbai then. It will be interesting to see how my Bold behaves as its unlocked but not unbranded and the resultant battery life.

I guess your best bet is to stick with EDGE. I am from India -- at least I spent the last 37 of my 38 years there ... and 3G is still a dream at this point since all of this is connected to / controlled by the Government. In fact BSNL (the government provider) has been making so much of noise over the past few years about providing Blackberry services but so far nothing. I am now based in Singapore and I really feel handicapped when I visit India and dont have 3G ...

funnily enough, there was an article in the paper today, have a read:

Mobile operators differ on hike in 3G spectrum base price

There you go, so 3G really is a pipe dream at the moment.
