I couldn't find "Manage Connections", but went to "Mobile Network" in Options, clicked on Network Mode...and then to 2G...and my AT&T mobile network went from showing 3G to "none"...
What am I doing wrong. I would like to switch to EDGE full time.
I don't think that option works on the AT&T network.

So Far So Good -
06-20-2009, 01:00 PM
Used Crackmem and DM 4.6.
Slightly quicker installation.
No problems and I love the ability to change 3G to EDGE. (AT&T)
Went from 51MB to 56MB memory.
Browser may be just a little snappier.
Now just waiting on a stable 5.0

But dropping back to 2G precludes the simultaneous use of data and voice, correct?

The biggest loss for me with this release was evident last night when I went to play Texas Hold 'em King 2 and found out that the upgrade took away my bankroll of over 60K... GRRRRR.

Correct. I've never found that to be a big issue for me in the past. I do not spend much time with voice calls and am much more email centric.

Very wierd. Normally I have to rearrange icons in themes, etc. This time, some of the basic theme folders (applications, setup) disappeared and needed to be recreated. No biggie. Just wierd.

This is great for the 2g/3g option -
06-20-2009, 09:26 PM
My upgrade is complete. All is working. Wifi, BT, 3G, Edge, and all my programs.
Interesting part is file total dropped to 93 but my file free increased.

It looks like the voicemail indicator shows up without having to remove the vvm COD files with this OS. Not huge, but a nice change.

Still too early for full evaluation.

Holly crap dude, ur at -110 reception on 3G??? That's rough. When u make calls u have to stand in one spot i'm guessing lol
I'm in etobecoke and i getting -70 on 3G and -57 on E right now. Down town ill get like -40 on E and -60 on 3G.

Upgraded today from 266 to 282, without reinstalling apps and restoring settings.
Manually re-downloaded all my apps.
Reconfigured my BlackBerry.
Found out that :
-reboot is faster
-3G comparable to 266
-picture thumbnails display way slower
-WiFi fast (like 266)
-browser speed like 266 (good)
Not tested :
-calls (failed calls, network path not find etc ...)
-battery life under 3G

I never noticed this myself. Does this mean a 5.0 release is near? lol.

Just upgraded from 266 to 282. I did /not/ wipe the BB first.
It was a seamless process, and I didn't even have to re-register the usual 3rd party apps this time with the serial numbers. Saved quite a bit of time.
It seems a little faster, especially the browser. There is a definite app memory increase of about 7 mb. The 2G/3G switch now works. I loaded the VVM this time and it does show the voice mail icon. I wonder when ATT will actually give us VVM? I don't know yet about battery life improvements with this version.
I've said this before, but this time I think I mean it. No reason to upgrade any more 4.6.0.xxx OSes, and just wait for a stable 5.0 OS.

Working with TomTom Traffic? -
06-21-2009, 04:07 PM
Does anyone else here use their Bold 9000 with TomTom for Live Traffic updates? The phone connects to the TomTom (XL) via bluetooth fine in firmware versions fine using vu4.6.0.162 but anything newer than that it refuses to pair. I'm stuck using this version. Just wondered if anyone else has the same problem and if its been fixed in a newer release?
Cheers

What is your current File Total - are you sure you gained &mb. My File Total went from 99 to 93. This seemed to account for most of the change.

I can't get my file total, or at least I don't know how, since alt-shift-H gives me an engineering screen (I debranded my BB).

Just installed works great except for blackberry app world. -
06-21-2009, 08:32 PM
I installed this. Works great, solid build, but too early to say anything about battery and network issues. One thing though, when you install this and immediately go and check your apps to see if they work, blackberry app world may not work. If would probably say: Upgrade your service to a plan that includes browsing and discover a world of possibilities at Blackberry App World. Contact your service provider for more details. First I tired a battery pull, didn't help, then I uninstalled and reinstalled, and that didn't work. I was away from my phone for like 5 or 10 minutes and then all of sudden it worked. I don't know if this a AT&T issue or something blackberry, but waiting just worked. Also, there is a new version of blackberry app world, 1.0.30. Don't know if that has to do anything with it either.

I upgraded last friday night from .266 no problems with this newer build. I think it is slower with reading multimedia files but not horrible. All my apps seem to be the same as .266 maybe a slightly quicker to respond. So far the biggest difference to me is the 3G/2G option and the battery "appears" to last longer.
No worries so far with my Bold!

I just upgraded 30 minutes ago. Wi-Fi seems to connect faster. All appears to be working well. Did anyone notice that Blackberry Browser is no longer a selection in the Browser options? I see Hot Spot, Media Net and Corporate Browser. I now see a browser Identification field where Blackberry, Firefox, and Internet Explorer are available.
Other than that, I have seen no issues.

So after 24 hours of testing :
-unable to place a voice call, had to soft reboot
-3 network path not found
-4 failed calls
-2 calls dropped in the middle of conversation
-3G less stable than 266 (goes back to EDGE than back to 3G when signal is poor)
-3G speed better than 266 (everything downloads faster, emails, bb messenger, browser)
-battery life : 50% after 22 hours => this is worse than 266 (3 phone calls, 20mns wifi, emails, BB messenger, facebook and Google maps (5mns))
For me eventhough it is faster than 266 it seems less stable on the radio part. I give it a shot for a few more days.
EDIT : forgot to say I see no memory leak for now. Stable at 48Mb ...

haven't had a great result with this OS. Since loading it my battery drains away withing a couple of hours! No matter how many battery pulls I do the drain keeps ocurring so I am now going back to the last OS. Also, once I installed this OS all my icons were in different places which has bever happened to me before when installing a new one. Maybe this is unique to me though!

PINs are (more or less) fixed to the unit, laid down at the factory, and not able to be changed. Your carrier may grumble if you call support because of a problem, even one wholly unrelated, but that's usually the biggest issue anyone ever sees.

It will not change your PIN. The PIN is hard coded to the device and can not be changed.

Way to remove VVM is to delete the VVM .cod files in the OS folder on the pc, then run with Desktop manager again and I believe it doesn't install.
Whether this will then remove from an already installed bold, not sure.
