Quite honestly, if you have to ask the above, I would advise you to be VERY VERY cautious about what cod files you remove from the Java folder.

Hey Iraed74, maybe your cow's saliva is messing with the components . Just kidding. Slow rendering could mean heavy load on the servers.

downloaded yesterday the new update and I am pretty happy, everythings seems to be working and similar to the previous built 266. The thumbnail in the multimedia is a bit slower as some reported, but not too painful or annoying, it is noticable though..however, I gained the ability to review all my multimedia files on the SD card via "All Songs" or "All Videos" where in the past the SD data wouldn't come up on the default view but only through "Explorer."

I also feel that the media player for watching videos is extremely sharp...it gets better with every update...to a point, amazing...wifi has been great with 266 and this latest built seems to be very stable too..no issue.

The update process was very smooth..either the process is getting better/easier or maybe I got it down packed to a point I can do it blindly... ...happy upgrading all!

I have to concur with rontiu about the new.282 upgrade. The only thing I have different is that my thumbnails are rendered very quickly no significant delay on my device.

Thumbs up Still researching - 06-22-2009, 06:42 PM

Hi all;
Still doing some reading here to see if I apply this update to mine or not. Did quite a few on my old Pearl.

Benefits of moving from .167 to .282?

I'm hoping this .282 will be the last OS upgrade before the 5.0 series comes out. If not, I'll just wait on 5.0.

Benifits... No more 3g... this OS will give you the ability to turn off 3g.

Saves battery like nuts.

I have been on .282 for 2 days now and it rocks, no errors.

The cow is always causing some type of issue

I seem to have lost the ability to put in the APN address with this upgrade (went from .162)

Options > Advanced > TCP
has turned into
Options > Advanced > TCP/IP

In this screen, it used to allow you to put in the APN address (internet.com for Rogers).
After upgrading, I have lost the ability to use jmirc (Tunnel refused), which is usually a symptom of the APN being wrong.

The new screen in .282 no longer contains a field to enter this address, only "APN Settings Enabled", and "APN Authentication Enabled"

Anyone know where I can enter the internet.com address now?

Guess it was not a good idea to upgrade while roaming. Now I am having issues with my wi-fi.
- It shows as ON but it will only connect when I open the browser.
- Emails are not coming in automatically
- BB Messenger not sending or receiving

If I delete and send all service books again will this help?

Here's what my screen looks like under Advanced Options > TCP/IP (on AT&T with .282):

I have found that 3G does not do well the farther you go up in a building.
At ground level it is -70 almost everywhere. I have never gotten better than -70 on 3G even if I am beside a transmitter. Maybe it is a hardware issue. I thought it was a 3G issue that no matter the signal strength, it would not show stronger than -70.
Otherwise in week signal areas at ground level I will pull in 3G where I would not get any non-3g signal at all.

Ok, so after a whole day without connection to BIS or BES I found out what my problem was.

Keep in mind I am roaming...After the upgrade, phone comes up in 3G and it didn't register with the network. I changed it to 2G and VOILA! received the required services books and it registered with the network. All services are back!

I can sleep tonight...

I get the same as everyone in 3G : -70 at the best
Battery life is a little shorter than 266.
Switched to EDGE only to get 3 days out of my Bold.

Still in 3G i have a lot more :
-radio path unavailable
-call failed
than in 266

In EDGE only I did not experience (yet ?) any of the above

Ah, did it, it says:

blackberry 9000
smartphone (3g, wi-fi)
v.4.6.0.216 (platform 4.0.0.183)
cryptographic kernel v3.8.5.50a
branding version 1.0.245.171

So am I on 183 or 171 or doesn't it matter, the above version is newer so just download it ?

Can I ask what are the main features of the newer version

your OS is 4.6.0.216.
the OS you are downloading is 4.6.0.282

it will be the top entry in the list on the download page

East Asia includes English. If you use languages such as french you will need a multilanguage OS, which currently .282 doesnt have.
you can install the east asia version and remove the extra langauges.

Upgraded to 282 on my AT&T Bold. I'm now in Charlotte, NC. The icon on my home screen reports I have a 3G signal. I have an Enterprise BES plan with tethering. When I tether my BB to my PC, I get a 3G connection but get no other emails or data on the BB until I disconnect but I can receive phone calls. Even when I'm not tethered, if I go into Mobile Network / Diagnostics, it shows EDGE instead of 3G. Is this a result of 282 or is it a result of the signal that I am getting. Can someone on 282 see if they get the same result when tethering. Can someone on 266 see what shows up under diagnostics when connected to via 3G, I kind of remember it saying 3G or something other than EDGE. I hope this isn't 282 because I'd rather not roll back. Thanks!

I believe when tethering you wont get emails, because the tethering is taking up the data connection via the laptop/pc you are tethered to.
