Default When can we expect RIM official release OS 4.7/5.0 for Bold? - 06-25-2009, 10:24 PM

Hi All:

I was trying out tethering software, PDANet. Unfortunately they only support OS 4.7 and above.

Wondering when RIM will officially make OS 4.7/5.0 available, so that i can enjoy free tethering through PDAnet.

4.7 wont be available for the Bold, 5.0 will be the next big update and no ones when.

I speculate we may see 5.0 Christmas but I don't know anything more than anyone else.

I am really looking forward to this. I hope that they do a great job with it before its release.

We're starting a little "futures market" here. Seeing who will come closest to the actual OS release month. as we know that only RIM knows, we can only have fun speculating.

Hey no cheating, you can't use the crystal ball. No crystal balls, fortune cookies, eight balls, ouiwegi boards, oracles, all seeing eye, or any of those things.

The latest 5.0 beta build that is out "in the wild" is 5.0.0.100, I believe. This is still very much an "alpha" beta and has proven to be extremely buggy to many who have tried it. You obviously are one of the few that are happy with it...but the majority of those who originally tried it have downgraded back to .266 or even the newest .282 release for stability sake...and the functionality of all their 3rd party applications.

Personally, with the release of the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre in the last month, I am really suprised that RIM hasn't released the 5.0 OS as a way to keep their current Bold users safely in the fold. There are a lot of very attractive alternatives out there now...

I can only hope RIM have decided to release it when its ready as opposed to releasing to keep the market, and end up losing the market because the release sucks!

I believe that if your an avid BlackBerry user/fan, then short of the device beginning to shock you everytime you touch it, then you won't be swayed to the other side, and for me the BlackBerry is living up to 99% of my expectations, and the other 1% I call survive without, so I'm not even looking.

Well I'm looking because I have to advise staff/clients on other phones out there, but for me personally, BlackBerry rules!

unless the rules have changed, posting links to beta software isnt allowed here, so the only thing you can do is google it.
it wont be difficult to find!
