Default Most Current Authorized AT&T OS??

Please Login to Remove!

What is the os that comes out of the box with a At&t bold? Is this the most current? If not, does anyone have a link to the most current and do you advise upgrading from the start? What is the main differences? Thanks!

4.6.0.167 is the current AT&T released (and shipping) version.

4.6.0.282 is the most recent carrier (CSL) approved version for the Bold.

Personally, I don't. If you're not experiencing any issues or there are no significant changes in the new OS, there's really no need to upgrade. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

the 3g to 2g switch seemed like a cool option, now I have it though I realised I don't need to use it.. pretty much get full 3G all over. (in the latest non-at&t release)

The latest release from AT&T is 4.6.0.167, but unlike the original 4.6.0.167, the newer version uses Platform 4.0.0.217. Whereas the original .167 uses Platform 4.0.0.157. Hope that's not confusing. When going to the AT&T Download Page look for the first listed version that says "Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9000 smartphone

The latest release from att is 4.6.0.167. I prefer that latest one which 4.6.0.282 because the battery life is much better and I have 20+ mb free application memory even with 21 apps. Also, I like switching between 3g and 2g because when I use wifi I turn off 3g to save battery. When I am not using wifi, i turn 3g back on.

Interesting... i wonder if i should update to the newer platform...

I am one of the very very few who has had no memory issues, good battery life, and only one random restart in about 8 months of use with .167 but ive seen others which cant even stay on for more than 30 min. I do get dropped calls every now and then, but im betting thats the network more than the phone.

I do want to check out .282 to see how it compairs, but i might wait for the official AT&T update which is supposed to come soon (OS 5 please!)...

One of the issues you should consider when waiting for OS 5 is that there are likely to be a number of third party programs that you use now that may not be upgraded to work properly with OS 5 when it is relaesed. Look at the Beta forum. There are a number of fairly common programs that are not yet compatible with the latest beta of OS 5. While it is likely that more programs will be become compatible by the time OS 5 is officially released, there are bound to be some, particularly from smaller vendors, which will not be upgraded to work with OS 5 at the time of its official launch.
I for one will not be upgrading to OS 5 on launch date, but will wait to make sure all my improtant 3rd party programs are compatible with OS 5.

I have used .282 without issue since shortly after it became a carrier sanctioned OS.
