Default Using GPS in another country !!! - 07-17-2009, 11:58 AM

I am living in Cyprus and I am going to Italy next week. I have a data plan with Vodafone. I called them to ask about the expenses that I am going to have if I use my GPS on my Bold in Italy. They told me that the cost is 0,6 Euros per MB. How can I calculate the data that I am going to use? For example if I travel for one minute and I am navigated by my BB what is the data that it is going to be downloaded?
Thanks very much in advance

First of all, check again: the data roaming is 6 (SIX) Euro/MB, not 0.6 Euro. Now, it depends what kind of GPS maps you use but most of them will likely consume 300 kbps per one way (maybe 200km or so). It's not worth it anyway,I suggest you get another gadget without any data charge, like a Mio GPS.

Just be sure you use Blackberry Maps instead of Google Maps. Big data difference.

Download MiniMoni, it will track how much data you have used in total. Unfortunately it will not determine how much data you have used individually for e-mail, PIN, maps, GPS etc. But it will determine real-time how much data in KB or MB you have downloaded. But if you only use the Blackberry for GPS then it will indicate how much you have used provided you are not connected to a BES. You can do an OTA download on your Blackberry or download it and use application loader through desktop manager to load it on to your Blackberry. Just do a google search for MiniMoni, a link will be provided.

This is the one I use for data usage. I love it.
