Default Update BB Software Email -> OS 4.6.0.291 - 07-26-2009, 06:45 AM

SO, I get an email today that there is new updated software for my phone.
Ok. so I check first t-mob's uk download for OS's. Nothing new.
Plug my phone into my pc, go to the bb.com/updates site, click update, get app loader up and it checks
and shows
4.6.0.162 Downgrade
4.6.0.216 Current
4.6.0.291 Preferred

What I dont get is, this hasnt been released by my carrier, (or they havent updated their site) and yet it automatically shows this for my carrier.
And we know the latest here is .282.
So, whats going on?

Should I update?

Wirelessly posted (9530; (I'm mobile) MF231; 35h)

If you're getting the upgrade bump from your carrier, the your carrier has released it. Its not uncommon for the wireless update to come a few days or couple weeks before the manual update file.

Ah ok. Its a Blackberry/RIM email from their update site. But it would be recognising the carrier Im guessing. As im currently running my carrier OS.
I did just try from the wireless upgrade option on the phone and it found nothing, so yeh.

I find it interesting that its ahead of the current known OS, as t-mob (uk at least) isnt known for releasing any OS for any phone model before other people.

Also find it interesting from the lastest known beta thread, the latest 4.6 for bold is .286
i guess this is why i feel suspicious of it.

guess giving it a go wouldnt hurt.

Update:
Well, took about 30 minutes to load fully. Probably due to downloading the wireless files for the OS.
Using DM 5.0.
All went well.
No immediate obvious improvements.

Nice, can you post a screen shot of the " About " screen?

*edit* Never mind, saw the Desktop Manager screen.

I will because something just occured to me.
.216 from t-mob uk had platform 4.0.0.183
and the "new" .291 also has the same platform; which is strange to me as .282 in the stickied thread has a platform of 4.0.0.235

Oh!, thank you for posting it and have you noticed anything new?

I'm guessing if the carrier doesn't get any complaints on dropped calls then they leave the Platform as is.

i honestly dont use my phone that much, and even then, mainly texting a couple times a week and some klondike every night.

So far: seemingly improved battery life, will keep monitoring
seemingly a bit of a memory leak. didnt do battery pull after load of OS as data and service books came back. was at 42 ish. after 5 and half hours was down to 38 ish and hadnt been used. did battery pull to recover memory and up to 58 ish. about 4mb more than on .216 after battery pull.
will keep monitoring this also.

Something else I just noticed: on .216 the profile for no indicators etc with a red icon on the profile icon was called SILENT. At least I swear it was called this.
Niw on .291 its just called OFF.

I'm guessing this is the final release before 5.0?

With 5.0 right around the corner, why would T-Mo release this?

... because 5.0 is not quite so "right around the corner".
