Last week I helped a friend out and installed BBM 5.0 on his Curve. I also updated his OS to the most current version so I had his OS and my OS (for my Bold) both loaded onto my laptop. The update and the installation of BBM went fine but now when I message him with BBM, I'm getting the same message sent back to me. When I view his contact info, the pin listed there is my pin. I've deleted him and added him again and I've tried re-installing the OS and re-installing BBM 5.0 on my phone and it works for a couple hours but then it goes back to doing the same thing. Is there something I need to delete/change on my phone so that it can distinguish between the two? Anybody else have this happen before? Thanks for the help.

So basically your problem is that one of you bbm contacts, your friend, has your pin, correct?

what OS version are you running?

yes, one of my bbm contacts has my pin. i'm running version .282

Hi guys, I have a question: I just bought an unlocked used blackberry from AT&T and im going to use it with Rogers. I was told by Rogers that they will not give me a PIN since this BB is originally from AT&T. So I have 2 questions:

1. Is it possible to use BBM without having a PIN and just add friends VIA their emails?

2. If this Blackberry is unlocked would the PIN be erased from the "options>status" window? and if not, would that PIN be valid??

Also:

3. Is there any way i would be able to get a new PIN (assuming all of the above fail) and i am unable to get it released from the original BB owner from AT&T

(I have yet to recive this BB but im trying to figure out my BBM situation, because that's what i was most excited about )

You cannot get a new PIN. a PIN number is unique to each device.
You should be able to get the original owner to delete their BIS account, therefore releasing the PIN allowing you to create a BIS account of your own if you have the BB data plan.

I think you're a little confused about the terminology. The PIN is a unique identifier of the device. Every device has a different PIN number.

If you go into Options > Status, what does it show for PIN?
If you compose a message and type mypin, what does it show?

Rogers doesn't assign a PIN to you. All they need to do is assign a BlackBerry data plan. Once you have that, BBM should work.

Setting up your personal email may be the issue, but BBM should not be an issue.

I havent gotten my phone yet, should get it by the end of the week...All im worried about is that after it was unlocked the PIN number wont work for BBM once I get my BB plan, because thats what i've heard from many people of this Forum that after the phone is unlocked they are unable to use BBM

There should be no issue with BBM after you get a BlackBerry data plan (BIS or BES). The problem that you have read about has to do with setting up email, and stems from the situation where the previous owner still has the PIN associated with his/her BIS account. When that happens, you cannot set up your own BIS account to use that PIN - the previous owner must "release" the PIN by removing it from his/her BIS plan. Any given BlackBerry device PIN can only be associated with one BIS/BES account at a time, so to add it to your account, the previous owner must first release it.

Ok Kirkland, I suggest that first you Re Register your handheld.. Advanced options-Host Routing Table-BlackBerry button and click "register now". Login to your BIS page and resend your service books. Upon completion of both of those, Pull your battery... Let me know if this does not resolve the issue

Reinstall the latest OS you have. BBM 5.0 has many bugs. I had quite a few when I tried it for 20 minutes. I'd wait on a clean release before jumping in.
