Is it because I don't have BB maps installed anymore?
Its removed that option perhaps?

Though I have Google Maps installed, the drop down only displays BlackBerry Maps as an option.

Am I missing something?

No. I did have both at one point and couldn't change that option.
Im guessing since I uninstalled BB maps, that option has disappeared.
So perhaps as google maps is the only one installed, it may default to that?

I suspect Advanced -> Maps is an options screen for BBMaps that introduces the possibility of the application using different source data at some point in the future. But that is just a WAG based on the fact that the option matches the LbsConfig service book name.

No it doesnt.
If you want to use google maps anyway, uninstall BB maps.
