I have this new icon since today: Search messages.

Looks "interesting and rich in functionality... but wonder where it comes from.

My google search returned a couple of entries from Decemebbr 2008 from individuals wondering what this icon is, and where it comes from... but no answer.

I have one similar to that except it is search. Don't know about yours.

The functionality here has nothing to do with the regular Search functionality we know.

See screenshot for all the options in the search, and it allows also search in the gMail messages on the server... Tested it, quite nice.

Am I the only crazy guy with this icon?

Incidentally, It disappeared now, and I'm not figuring how to getting back... (resent service books, reconfigured my Gmail account, ...)

Not at all. The only app that could somehow be related is the plug-in for gMail. I redownloaded it to see if the enhanced search would reappear, but it didn't it.

No, at least there are two such guys I got the same ugly looking icon just today. Though I'm not on a real device, I'm running the Storm 9530 simulator. Did you run that app, what it does? The fact it appeared suddenly keeps me away from trying it to run...
