Thanks, unfortunately this 5.0 came with 4.7.0.41 BBM and the leaked 5.0.0.8 does not work with it. So I didn't bother to report on it, but I will now update the article with that info.

Yes. That's consistent with the leaks for the other phones. BBM 4.7 on OS 5.0 is running better for me than BBM 5.0 on a 4.7 OS

Good report, but you didn't really mention any negatives about it.

Nice report.

If I may contribute I've found that voice dialing doesn't work and neither does QuickPull.

Flash24, I will lookout for the negatives and let you all know.

Thanks to the others.

Robeko, I don't use those apps, but thanks, I'll add a table for apps that don't work and add your two and your name to the article if that's ok.

Are you sure that Gmail 2.0.6 works on 5.0.0.238?

This has been my only gripe since the first 5.0 leak, how did you get yours to work? any tricks? Thanks.

I can assure that gmail 2.06 is not working in this release (5.0.0.238), a error appears trying to load the app.

The gmail app that I'm using on my device works. Not sure if you could see it in the listing, no tricks, just installed it.

[IFC]Area51 and maxdecimus, as you can both see in one of the images within my article, the Gmail application is listed in the Third Party apps list. It works for me, and I have all my 4 accounts configured and working. I get e-mails and am notified when e-mails come in. However, I have attached a few images I just took from my BlackBerry 5.0.0.238 with Gmail app working. Hope you take my word for it. I would not say its working if it wasn't.

thanks for your report...it was really cool for you to post all teh picstures ... i also went ahead and installed the 5.0.238 os and i really like the bootin times new splash logo screen and love the threaded smsi just wish sms threads would be able to go into a seperate folder like on the treo...

anyway i did have a questions i like almost eveyrthing aobut the new os except i would like to change something i really dont like the bbm5 itt takes to much space i have alot of contacts and the names are so much taht now i find myself havin to scroll all over the place making it really annoying...i find this also true for the new Google talk,,,

is there anyway that you know to be able to downgrade my bbm5 and gtalk 2.5 back to the previous versions...?

I believe your BBM5 won't work with OS 5.0 (at least it didn't when I had 238 installed), so you can download BBM 4.7 via OTA. I don't have the link off hand but it's pretty easy to find.

Hi avocado, thanks for reading my article, it was recently updated.

I'm surprised to hear that you have BBM5 running because as you might have read I could not get it working. Downgrading, I would suggest that you connect to you DM and then remove the BBM5, reboot the device and then add back the BBM that came with the 5.0.0.238. I did not have to worry about loosing my contacts, once I installed the 4.7 all my contacts came back. I would recommend however that you backup just in case anyway.

Also note that if you have a lot of contacts, you can actually type the first letter of the contact that you're looking for and the app will filter accordingly, likewise for googletalk and any other of the I'm clients. I would also recommend creating groups and place your contacts in them as well to reduce your scrolling.

Here's a link that might get you 4.7 as well. The download link is on the page http://bbhybrids.net/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=42

Thanks, hope I answered your questions.

Great report, I upgraded mine to this yesterday and have lost Internet Browser. I have tried pushing the service books and redoing the enterprise activation but still not getting it. My options are My companies internet browser, Hotspot Browser and Media Net. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. I have checked with other people that have Blackberries here and they haven't lost there internet browser. I also checked with the BES admin and they haven't taken any access to that away.

I lost BlackBerry Browser during this upgrade. I have resent service books multiple times, registered several times (host routing table), multiple battery pulls, and even tried restoring service books from prior to upgrade....no dice. All I have is the MediaNet browser and the Hotspot Browser.

Any ideas?

thanks kirrin for the extensive report. the splash screen actually is so much better than the hourglass hee hee.

I assume from the list of 3rd party applications, you don't use BerryBuzz? i want to know if that works on this OS.

Also, maybe this is a dumb question, but do the themes work alright? i've got a weather theme and would like to know if there are any glitches using themes.

thanks again!!

Coduette, I will give berrybuzz a tryout today and let you know. Also, as far as themes go, I didn't have a problem with my theme that was graciously designed for me by sixten designs and it worked without issue. Also an iron man animated theme that I used also worked fine.

[IFC]Area51, I did post some images of the application working in one of my postings, showing the Help screen with the info. However, as soon as I'm back in office, I will do some screenshots and post.

Kirrin, your list of apps that work mention Viigo but I can´t open mine. As a matter of fact each time I try to open it my Bold freezes until I push the End button. As Viigo stays open in the background I have to do a battery pull in order to close it.
I've tried unistalling and reinstalling Viigo and I also reinstalled the .238 but the problem remains. I will try later wiping out and starting from scratch and let you know.

CoDudette, got bogged down yesterday. Downloading it now as I post this.

Nor246 I think all the excitement for BBM 5 has already reached its peak. But its nice to know that tomorrow (hopefully, we all know how RIM gets with release dates), we'll have an official BBM.

Area51, I guess I am lucky. Sorry you're not getting the same results I'm getting.

Everytime I try to get in to gmail I get uncaught exception net.rim.device.api.system.controlledaccessexceptio n plus I still don't have a internet browser so I have to go back to 4.6 unless anyone has any ideas on how to fix these? I tried the browser fix from another site but my company does everything wirelessly so I can't load the idp file from DM to fix it.
