I transfer TV shows from my DVR to watch on the Bold. The problem is that I have to seek past commercials, and the video player's seek functionality is awful. It seems like you can either seek 5 seconds at a time or 5 minutes. If you roll the ball slowly it goes very slowly, then if you roll a little faster it seeks at 5 minute intervals! Arg!!!

Does anyone else have this problem, or am I missing something?

Yup, I have the same problem. I'd love to be able to skip in 30 second increments. It's faulty by design, you don't have anything wrong with your phone. The software sucks in this regard.

There are tools out there that convert DVR to AVI format, then there is another tool to convert AVI to iPod format. While the last step is not always necessary, it certainly does help to decrease the file size by about 70%. Also, sometimes AVIs skip frames and/or sound is not synchronizes (our phones have limited processing power), so by converting AVI to iPod video format (which plays extremely well on our phones), you'll ensure smooth delivery, low file size, etc...

Just do a google search for converters. My favourite AVI to iPod video converter is called "3GP Converter". It's from Japan, but is available in English and it's a full version, small footprint.

Actually, found an even better way to manage your blackberry multimedia.

Check out DoubleTwist - it automatically converts videos to your BB format, so you don't have to do a thing. The interface is very iTunes-like, and it works on a lot of PDAs/phones.
