Default Device Software missing from Add/Remove

Please Login to Remove!

I just uninstalled DM5 and installed the 5.01 update. Then I was going to uninstall the new OS I'd downloaded on the computer and which had been listed in ADD/REMOVE software as "Blackberry Device Softwar"e and now I notice the name is not on the list anymore. "Device MANAGER 5.1" is there, but NOT Blackberry Device Software. I still have the files under Common Files. How do I uninstall it now? Since there are registry entries for the Device Software you need to uninstall, not just delete the files. Thanks.

You should have deleted the Device software first, as uninstalling desktop software removes device software from the list, because it cant be recognised without desktop software.
try installing the device software again. it should perform a modify, restoring it to the list, which you can then uninstall. I believe anyway

Raven, good try. I reinstalled the Device software on the PC, and it in fact repopulated Add/Remove, fully, without a "modify" or repair option. I them removed the software using Add/Remove, but it left every file on the hard drive. And when I tried to delete that folder in Common Files, Desktop Manager would not work. It wants some of those files in the RIM folder in Common Files. This was all my way of trying to avoid a complete manual hand uninstall of DM to stop the updating mentioned in another post. Before I go through the steps for a manual, clean uninstall of DM, is there any file I can rename in the RIM folder or sub-folders in Common Files that will stop the updates? I know you could do this in DM 4.7. I'm using 5.01. Device OS is 247. I'm on an XP Pro box.

have you rebooted after the uninstall?
it could be a case of it needing a reboot to delete the files.

no, ive got no idea.

Download the os. Then download revo uninstaller and uninstall the os from there and it should remove all traces of the os in the registry and in common files.

Looks like that's my last choice, Revo. I manually uninstalled DM5, including all registry entries. Followed these instructions to the letter: View Document. Reinstalled, and despite taking great care to uncheck all updates-choices, the damn program, 5.01, still updates. I'll try Revo. Only other choice is to uninstall everything -- DM, OS -- back up the registry, scrub it clean of all RIM keys, then start again. Or just live with the software the way it is. I was doing fine with 4.7. Should have left well enough alone. Now even backup hangs at [profiles].
