Cannot connect to the internet or register -

Hello everybody,
I have just bought a bold from a friend's friend (he said it was an O2, I'm in England) and so I bought a top us as you go O2 text and web simcard.
The problem is that internet doesn't work, I can add an email account, when I go to email settings, there's only the entreprise option, and I can't register at all.
I was so exited to use my new blackberry but now i'm really disappointed...
can somebody help me please?
