Default Service Books don't get to phone

Please Login to Remove!

Sending service books but they don't get to my phone.

Problem started a few days ago when all of a sudden I didn't get internet connectivity through cellular. Wifi, everything worked find, but when not on wifi, no email, no web pages.

I called AT&T and they walked me through wiping the handheld (after I did a backup).

When we got to the point of sending service books to my wiped device, I get the message "Service Books successfully sent." but they never get to the phone. I verified the PIN and IMEI are correct. AT&T referred me to RIM support who want a credit card before I can talk to them.

The good news is I have internet connectivity again. I can load a web page. But no email because I can't get service books. I go to the BIS site, I've tried deleting my email accounts and creating them again, same results.

The phone has always been BIS, bought new from AT&T in January.

Any ideas?

When I have a problem I put on wi-fi, so its connected to BIs, and then send service books.
Then they definately will come through, because I have a connection, and my gprs turns into GPRS.

Have the carrier reactivate your BB data plan.

You can also try a battery pull again.

And also remove the SD card. Sometimes that is an issue.

Update: the problem went from bad to worse yesterday, as AT&T had me do several trouble-shooting things, another wipe or 2, and eventually had me take out the SIM card and put it back in. When I did that, it wouldn't recognize the SIM card: "Insert SIM card". Finally they told me to go to an AT&T store and they would give me a new SIM card. (at this point of course, I had no phone at all. Nice paperweight!) Did that, and the new SIM card (put in by the guy in the store) got "Authentification Failed". He put that same SIM card in his Bold and it was fine. So we got on the phone with tech support again and they sent me to an AT&T replacement center where they gave me a new Bold. Everything loaded fine, service books come down, I had my back up at home, so I put that back on, and all seems well except for a couple of small things.

I can browse the interenet, and I get email, however, in Browser Configuration, I only have the options of Media Net and Hotspot Browswer. Shouldn't I also have 'Browser' listed?

All my apps seem to work, Google maps, Pandora, etc. (even when I've got wifi disabled), but the one app that won't load is Facebook, says I don't have a data connection. I'll research the facebook app, maybe it's a separate issue, but that not having the 'Browser' concerns me a little -- I've never understood what it's for, but it seemed important. I'll ask AT&T about reactivating my data plan too, maybe that will fix it.

Thanks for the input!

Try a battery pull first before doing anything and see if the browser appears. Also, make sure that it isn't hidden.

Make sure the new PIN and IMEI is loaded in BIS (I assume it is since you get email).

If the browser still isn't there, call ATT and have them reprovision a BB data plan on the new device and resend service books. When they activate a BB data plan on that device and push the service books, the browser should show up.

OK, just did a battery pull, no change. Checked my hidden icons. Re-put in my PIN and IMEI on my BIS and sent service books.

The thing is, I do have an icon called "Browser". But when I load it, it gives me the AT&T splash page, then goes to the Media Net home page (which I'm not even sure what it is, just an AT&T thing). From there, I can go to google, espn, etc., any web page. So in that sense, nothing is wrong. I'm just wondering why in my Browser options, Browser Configuration, I can only select Media Net or Hotspot Browser. I used to have a 3rd option, 'Browser'. Even AT&T support told me yesterday I should have a 3rd choice there.

So I'm working fine, happy as can be. The only outstanding issue is Facebook, I reinstalled the app, get the login/signup screen, put in my login information and get "Could not connect because data service is not available". All my other apps that use data connection are working fine, so I know I have one, just wondering if Facebook is looking for something specific related to my not having the 'Browser' option in Browser Configuration.

I will definitely have AT&T do the re-provision thing.

For the browser issue, try resending the service books again, or go to options > advances options > host routing table > menu button > register now.

Problem resolved by AT&T, my account had somehow been changed to Enterprise Server (they're not sure how, and I was never billed for Enterprise), so AT&T changed it back to Individual Blackberry plan, reprovisioned my account, and it updated my phone right away and I now can choose "Internet Browser" along with Media Net and Hotspot.

And I can also connect to facebook now.

Even though it took 2 days to fix, and a new phone, and lots of wipes and reconfigures, and even though it seems the problem was all on their end, gotta say AT&T support (phone, live chat and in the store) was helpful and called me back to check on things all through the problem period, so they get a gold star from me.

Thanks for the input here too, I love these forums.
