Do another battery pull and wait a few minutes.
I've seen where first battery pull doesn't work, but second or third, or longer does.
There is only one other thing I can think of if the battery pull doesn't work, and that is to clear the messages database, but I expect you don't want to do that. (EDIT: On second thought, clearing the database is probably a dumb idea for this problem. Sounds like the messages delete; just the setting for confirm cannot be changed. Doesn't strike me as a database issue.)
