I recently upgraded my Bold from the old 4.x OS to the new 5.0.0.xxx (can't remember which one but it was the latest one before 5.0.0.822) and most recently to 5.0.0.822. I am having terrible issues with memory leaks that drops me down to < 3.0 MB by the end of the day. I don't have a crazy amount of apps installed and I've deleted just about everything I can think of including the language packs and other stuff described in some articles I have read.

I have seen a few other people talking about memory issues in other threads but I would expect to find a lot more if it was really widespread.

Should I downgrade to a more stable v5 OS? What would be your suggestion?

I had this same basic set of apps installed in 4.x and I was getting ~25 MB of free memory after a battery pull. Now it's ~13 MB.

I have also read a few threads on people complaining about memory leaks. I am running the same version OS 5.0.0.822 with the following apps installed:

I currently have nearly 33 MB of free memory and after a battery pull I have about 35 MB.

Have you tried wiping the device and doing a re-install of the OS?

Also, you can to to Options>Status>Database Sizes (Hit the Menu Key while in the Status Screen to get to Database Size) Here it will show you how much memory is occupied by different databases. Check and see if there are any abnormally large numbers here.

Nothing crazy in the Database Sizes screen. My messages DB was about 2 MB but I get a shitload of emails for work and I already have it set to auto-delete after 15 days.

I have been suspicious of the latest version of Facebook. It seems like the memory issues started when I upgraded to that but that is a very unscientific opinion.

I haven't done a clean install yet but that will probably be my next step.

I just did the 1385 upgrade (from 4.6). Started at 22. 24 hours later I'm at 21. Battery life is improved as well. Might be your answer.

I haven't heard of any issues related to the new Facebook App Version but I don't use the app myself (doesn't work without a BB Data plan)

Rather than do a complete wipe and re-install, maybe see if you can roll back the FB app to its previous version or remove it completely and see how it affects the memory leak issue.
