I have a dead BB Bold. I got a new battery so that's not it. I tried charging via USB on MAC and PC and via power to the wall and that doesn't work. When connected to the computer via USB it shows a pic of a battery with a red X across it. I tried Jl_Cmder, BBSAK, Desktop manager and none of those detects my device. It's not the USB cable since my daughter's BB Pearl connects just fine. Any thoughts? I've read a lot of the posts and none seem to be precisely the issue I have.

Did you get a brand new OEM Battery?

Try leaving it on the wall charger for a couple hours and see if it comes on. Had a similar experience with my BB, it had run down, left the battery in and it wouldn't charge after a couple months sitting on the shelf.

New battery from AT&T, works fine.

Yes it was an Oem battery.
