does anyone know when or if sprint will be getting the 9xxx series and if so when?

nothing has been posted at all on this. IF the device is real, it would make sense they would get it, since they eventually get all devices, at least a variation of it. CDMA just takes a while.

Sprint hasn't even gotten the Curve yet! A year or more, depending on how big a success the CDMA Curve turns out to be. I think that will have a lot to do with how hard RIM tries to get the 9000 on CDMA.

Sprint is CDMA. Most phones come out GSM first. Don't expect it for a while after GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile get theirs. And, out of the two CDMA carriers, Sprint is usually not on the ball with newer BlackBerries.

Why single out Sprint? Sprint has gotten the last 3 BBs within one month of Verizon and in the case of the new 8330, Sprint is getting it before Verizon. I agree CDMA is the redheaded step child when it comes to BBs, but Sprint is no worse off then Verizon.

CDMA phones are upgraded when compared to their GSM counterparts. It may take longer, but its a different animal. Look at the 8330 vs the 8310. New OS, more memory, video recording, updated browser, better flash, etc.

According to another forum's CTIA report, the upgraded memory doesn't give 8330 more free-user-accessible memory. They compared 8330 with their GSM 8310/8320 and found the free memory are about the same. Therefore, they concluded that CDMA OS consumes more memory than its gsm counterpart.

However, I'd highly doubt it. Because as a hardcore user as other forum's editor, he might have removed all app/media/crapware that he could possibly and safely get rid of. Comparing his curve with a fully loaded demo 8330 is not practical at all.

just take a look at the BGR photos that floated around the net a little while back. they showed clearly more free memory than other devices.

And that was after the story writer/tested added a number of apps, 4k+contacts, 4k+messages. Thats what it said in the story anyway..

If i remember correctly, it was approx 45mb free, after the tester made it like his personal BB.

I had to contact Verizon for another reason, but asked them when the 9000 would come out for the CDMA networks.
The BB rep told me to expect it around first quarter of '09.

So they don't even know when the 8330 will be out, but they have a date for the 9000.

What would the 9000 be on CDMA that is different than the 8330? 3G, yep, 8330 has it. GPS, yep, there too the 8330 has it. Upgraded memory, yep, 8330 has 96mb. Video recording/new OS? By the time the 9000 is launched for a few months you will see 4.5 on the CDMA devices. The only main difference would be the WiFi. Which used with 3G and GPS means dead battery. There is not a whole lot different from the 8330 to the 9000. This is just the GSM carriers in North America catching up to CDMA

There would be a lot of things, Rev A, way faster proc, possibly OS 5.0, way better screen, external micro sd slot, etc.

The 9000 has the hardware to do about anything you need, RIM just needs to up the anti with a new OS and software offerings.

if you change the processor, change the screen, change the OS on release, you are no longer working with the 90xx devices. It is unlikely they will change the processor for anything in the 9xxx line (look at 81xx, 83xx, 87xx, 88xx, all the same processor). They might change the internal memory for it, and the external media card slot. Its also not likely they will make the resolution much better than it is, you are going to start running into much larger devices which people have already complained about. Rev A adoption has been slow, very much like 3G has been slow on US GSM carriers. Its still major cities at this point, and not even all of them. Once it is rolled out more i am sure you will see devices come out with Rev A.

I think you'll see Rev A getting rolled out faster now. There are several Q-chat enabled phones set to debut on Sprint and they depend on Rev A to work.

Sprint announce an iDEN with WiFi for Q3-Q4, I would suspect that a majority of their resources are focused on that (and getting the 8330 out the door).

I saw something interesting on RIM's website. . . among the many engineers they are hiring, there were a few with the title "Touch Screen Engineer". . .hmmmm...

Oh it will be expanding now that Rev0 is predominantly everywhere. It has just been very slow up until this point.
