I am thinking about picking up a new 8320, but I am not sure if I should wait for WES to see if they announce anything major.

However, I don't think the new 9000 series will be replacing a curve just yet because the curve has only been out for a year (and they are still rolling out new curves like the CDMA version)

Am I correct to speculate this?

looks like sound reasoning. IF it replaces anything it will probably be the 8700 series devices

/sold my apple stock on the announcement of the 9000

judging by the posts for people switching back (even though this board is a small sample) seems the curve itself does pretty well bringing people back from the iPhone.

Welcome to the forums!!! I think the 9000 isn't out to replace any other BB. It (in my opinion) is just another option for us to choose from...much like a choice of model from a car maker.

As far as iphone killer goes...hmm, its already dead!!! Ha. Just kidding.

Popped my blackberry cherry with one and i love it, its got everything youll need!
I recommend them, also i think theyre probs the best looking blackberry to date.

And for those in the UK, the iPhone is getting better, the reason apple only sold so many hundred thousand is because O2 UK were offering such a crap base contract with it, for a stupid price that only the serious fashion nerds and geeks would pay.
Lately theyve been offering a base contract which is three times better (i.e. 3x free minutes and 3x free sms).
So as long as O2's rival networks can offer base contracts for BB that will better the price of the iPhone on O2, any BB device will sell better.

The 8700 was kept around for it's sheer popularity (commonly referred to as the best built BlackBerry to date). The 8800 was the would-be replacement for the 8700, but obviously it was too expensive of a device with a love-it/hate-it keyboard and no real feature enhancements (excluding GPS and later Wi-Fi). The 9000 is in this same family, so expect the 8700 to stop being sold (production will end later this year) and the 8820 to still cater to those wanting the bells and whistles (minus 3G) without having the camera.

Its sad to hear they will stop the 8700 production. It is in my opinion the best BB out there ever built. I still use mine and yes i have tested and used every new release since the 8700. The keypad of 7290 and 8700 are my fav. The curve is a nice setup as well but Cam phones not allowed. Phones not allowed period in certain areas but no cam phones period. The wheel is also a lot easier for me to use and navigate with one hand. 8800 by far one of the worst keypad layout i have ever seen next to tuch screen of the iPhone.

i was hoping the 9000 would have a similar keypad to the Curve as a personal phone but i guess that was wishful thinking.
