Default Question on internet access

Hi all, new here... Nice place, hope to learn allot. Question. My Wife at the fair got a great Deal on a 9300 Curve (FREE) when you include it with a Hotspot as we have been wanting too use our laptop while on the go. So, we bought that unit. Today, using it at her work with the laptop (works Great) a guy came up and said to her, why are you using that Hotspot, just hook your phone up via usb and you can get internet that way. She just called me up and told me this and im wondering if that is indeed true.

Now i know the hotspot is good for 5 things at once, yet our most basic need now is to get the laptop running only as currently we don't need anything else. At $140 for the Hotspot and a $30.00 monthly , if we don't need it I can save some money.

Anyways, that's my question. Can a T-Mobile 3g curve 9300 on its own give internet access to my laptop via a USB cable as my wife was told.

Thanks guys

oh, and our service is unlimited data, voice, etc...

Tethering is not included in your unlimited data plan. The data is "unlimited" on the device. Tethering is extra.

Thank you for your reply. Do you know off hand how much that is?

EDIT - Never mind, looks like they call it Hotspot at $9.99
