Verizon is known to charge Instant Messeging clients such as Yahoo Messenger as SMS/TEXT messeging. How do I make my storm count the IMs as DATA charges and not text messeging? I'm in collage, I can't afford all the things..please help | | Offline

| Go to mobile.blackberry.com and download the clients there. I believe (could be wrong) that they use data and not SMS. | | Offline

| According to information posted in other threads about third party apps not working on the Storm, BeeJive is currently not compatible with the Storm and they hope to support OS 4.7 soon. | | Offline

| If a Verizon rep told you IM's count as SMS they are mistaken. They count as data as I tried to tell a rep one time they didnt believe me. So I told him to check my account as I send BB mesenger and Yahoo IM's all the time and rarely ever SMS text. Needless to say he still did not trust my word. I can tell you I would go WELL over my limit of 500 SMS easily on IM's alone if they counted as SMS. IM's count as data, I promise. | | Offline

| I'll second Hebdog's comment... I use IM's almost exclusively and it's all data. None of those things should count against your SMS/MMS usage. Unlike you guys though, I've actually had VZW Reps give me the correct answer. | | Offline

| RIM has Gtalk, Yahoo, Live, and AIM, all at mobile.blackberry.com from the BB browser. You will know if you download the VZW one becasue it's all three together. RIM ones are all seperate.

| I would also recommend JiveTalk by BeeJive. I've been using it on my Pearl for the past year and it is very solid. As for the data vs. SMS question, here's a quote from BeeJive's website:
"Uses your existing data plan:
No SMS charges."
I hope they release a version for OS 4.7 soon. | | Offline

| dac00160, you were charged for using JiveTalk? On Sprint, JiveTalk always used data and not SMS. Even their website says "No SMS charges" as I stated above... I'd be surprised if the program functioned differently based on which network (sprint vs verizon) it was using. | | Offline

On the 8830 AIM did'nt work. | Ah, those were the other two I was thinking about...
And if you're being charged txt/sms charges for using those program, something is very wrong! I've used those on my 8830 and they are data usage apps. | | Offline
