I bought the phone on its first day of release and so far it's been a great phone. Never had the reboot issues. Don't experience any lag with the camera. The browser and music player are both great. It's about the same with the Bold which I also have from my company.

Initially, I was leaning towards sending it back. But I promised myself I would give the phone a two week test drive. Well, the Storm grew on me. I am also new to the Blackberry experience so the email access and calendar are very welcome aspects.

I found this forum and it reminds me of the same experience I had when I transitioned to Apple MAC. Like MAC products, people seem to be fanatical about their Blackberries.

I've instituted the keyboard tweak listed in this forum and it was definitely a big improvement in the keyboard responsiveness. I am still running the original .65 OS and am curious to try the .76 upgrade but being new to this whole experience has me leary.

Anyone notice big changes after updating the OS? I am definitely not happy with the camera lag, lag when transitioning to landscaped keyboard, and basic sluggishness of the phone operations. My co-worker has a Curve and he sails through performance of basic operations. Another friend has the Bold and he was rather miffed at the regular appearance of the clock on my phone as it chugged through its operations.

Will an OS upgrade speed up my phone? Or is there any other suggestion?

I thought about sending mine back, however it is really growing on me. I came from an iPhone 3G (Haven't sold it yet, just in case.) I just did the .75 update via OTA Update, and that alone was pretty cool to watch. Since the Update this almost seems like a new phone, it's a lot more snappier than it was before.

From what i've understood so far, the .75/76 updates have improved lag times between switching from portrait to landscape modes and the lag between opening different apps. I'm not sure if this is confirmed yet but, before i upgraded my storm would reboot randomly, now it is running fine. I would deffinetly reccomend the update as it is the same device as .65 only faster, therefore better =]

I spend an average of about 200-300 minutes per day talking on my iPhone. I don't recall a single dropped call in the past few weeks. I do remember one while I was driving a while back, but that happens with any phone. The stories of iPhone dropping calls are highly exaggerated.

Sure the iPhone sucks, but it sucks less than pretty much every other phone out there.

I just switched from ATT to V because mainly of coverage issues. I had both iPhones and also the Bold. You all know the story on the iPhone, its a great device but a terrible phone. And it drops calls every day.
On the other hand the Bold is one of the best phones I have had, very stable and the UI is so fast you can't believe it. Typing on it was great, the speaker phone was loud ect.... But one thing I missed on it was a larger screen, and now I have the Storm.
I'm still undecided on the Storm, I have to say coming from and iPhone that the Touch Click is, well a huge PITA, I don't understand what they were going for with this, its like typing on a old type writer or something. I dont do a ton on messages ech day, but a fair share and that alone but be the deal breaker. The good news is BB is selling a ton of these phones so updates should be flying out the door. The iPhone had and has issues, heck every phone does, so switching to anything else will relieve that. Maybe the Samsung might be a better phone, but I wounder how long a update will come along for it.
Anyway, take to me in 30 days and I'll have decided on the Storm

Smile Keep Storm

I have been using this phone from last three days, It was frustrating to start with, as I spend sometime with it and gave it a good try it got better and better, did upgrade of OS and now this phone is probably the best phone I have ever used. It is absolutely amazing, I am now as fast on keyboard as I was with my previous 8703e, I am heavy e-mail user. I have not had any issues with this phone at all so far, I think people are making quick decisions before spending sometime with the phone, it is a new technology and will take some time. I am keeping it and enjoying it. Thanks.

I would give it more time before sending it back. With most things new there are still bugs that havent been worked out yet, Im sure OS updates will fix most of these problems.

Sent my Storm back because there was no sound in the earpiece. Also the battery life was terrible despite making all the suggested changes. My Vodafone signal also mysteriously dropped compared to my previous BlackBerry.

Vodofone fell over themselves to be helpful and sent a new Storm the same day. Earpiece worked this time and the battery life is much better. A new SIM has also helped a little with the signal.

The keyboard is a little fiddly and the camera does lag, but I'm sure that will be fixed with software updates over time.

Growing on me...

Phil

I think folks who haven't owned BlackBerries are more patient with the device.

For those used to the keyboard and new-new freaks, they're likely to send it back.

ALMOST SENT IT BACK, ALTHOUGH .75 UPDATE SAVED VERIZON AND RIMS BUTT

I was seriously considering sending my storm back and actually switched to my curve 3 days before the update release, since nobody had solid information, as to when the .75 would be released. The update came out, installed in the storm and WOW what a difference! The screen now transitions, basically within a second or less. Click an icon and the program opens in the same speed. The camera is slow making it worthless, when shooting a moving object, such as my 2 year old son, although I do have a real camera for that, but my curve did process fast enough to catch the little guy, without the photo being blurred. I believe this is simply a software update away though.

The curve was nasty ugly looking after viewing the storms screen and the internet on the storm is far superior in speed and worth. In short, I kept the storm and if you are having issues, DO NOT return the phone without installing, the current software version. You will probably be surprised to find most MAJOR issues have already been resolved. I only named two bug fixes that mattered to me the most.

I also tested my typing skills after the update and found that I could type on the curve only 4-5 seconds faster than on the storm, when writting the same sentence, so the touch/click screen doesn't really slow me down and I am sure with a short amount of time I will master the touch screen also. If you are having serious issues with the touchscreen, it is user related without a single doubt. Just learn a new skill and type away.
