Question BlackBerry Storm PIN - 12-07-2008, 06:39 PM

What is the PIN for? I have seen some people advertise it. Why would you advertise the PIN? Some sites for applications ask for it too. Wondering why... any ideas?

I do believe the PIN is for bb to bb messanger, or something like that.

The PIN is used for BlackBerry to BlackBerry messaging. It is similar to text messaging, but it is only for messages between BlackBerrys.

Unless you want BlackBerry spam, I wouldn't give it out to a lot of people.

This is like a personal identification number for you device. If you use the bb messanger you send messages to each other buy using this pin# instead of your phone number. I have used mine 3 times in 2 years.

The PIN is a unique identifier for each device. You can communicate to other blackberry users via PIN messaging or BBM.

Thanks all! That's a pretty cool feature, but I guess you'd have to know each other's pin to use it. Thanks again for the posts!

As jsconyers said, you can also send a message via PIN and not just through BB Messenger.

Lots of new users...

Its funny. Now a days, most of my friends have blackberries... and well, no one text messages anymore. At least... to phone numbers. Its all BBM from here. Awesome times.

So.. thegeek, if you have any friends who have blackberries, all you have to do is ask them for their pin... and send an invite to them on bbm.

How do you find your pin?

Home > Options > Status > Pin.

If you want to text someone your pin...

begin typing a text message and type mypin (space) and it'll display your pin in the message that you're sending. Then you're set. (Remember... that this should be in the autotext section of your bb options).

G'luck.

type mypin

When composing a message, and it will show the pin.

when a website asks for your PIN, normally it means that they are only allowing you to pay for it for that one device... like jivetalk for example, you need to enter your PIN as on there database your license is store based on your PIN... hope that makes sense...
