Default Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

I have noticed that my battery life has grown worse over the last few days. It seems to last about 12 hours (8AM - 8PM) with minimal usage. Today it died at 8PM, and I only made a couple brief phone calls. I checked email messages, and I looked at a couple things on the web, but pretty minimal use given the phones capabilities. Any hints on how to extend the battery life?

That Global Roaming Off Tip Was Great- Thanks!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't recall which author posted the idea of turning off Global Roaming in the Mobile Network settings to conserve battery power, but wow, thanks man!

My battery has a new life-- it goes all day on about 1 segment compared to 3 or 4 it used to chew up. And, I did not change anything else like Bluetooth or display brightness.

I'm assuming the GSM radio must have been polling for networks on a frequent basis and for nothing.

If you're in the US on Verizon and want to extend your battery life, give that a try (set it to 1XEV for the Network Technology).

I was just logging on to ask the same question.
I've been burning through my battery without much usage.
I will post my results.

I just changed my settings too. I will see how it goes tomorrow! Strange that Global would be the default setting.

Listen, guys, lol, I came in here tonight to discuss just this topic. I was going to reply something sarchastic like "battery life? What battery life?" lol, but I think I may have found my answer on why I charge my phone overnight, and by 10pm it's jonzin' for juice bad!
Anyway, thank you all and thank you Cablelayer for the great tip.
I too will let you all know how my storm handled this.

Don't thank me. Wasn't my idea. It was MegaBit a CrackBerry User. Go over there and thank him.

This worked for me, my battery lasted today much longer than the day before. Yesterday when I got home from work mine was in the red (I was on it all day). Today by the time I got home there was two bars left, and thats saying something for the amount of calls I place.

I set the mobile network for global to 1XEV. This improved the battery life somewhat but I found the that by un-installing visualarts the battery life improved even more.

VisualArts is an application that I downloaded which changes the home screen image (just like a screen saver). Although I had it set to changing the screen every other day, it still drained the battery within a day. So I guess I need to wait for an update.

I just turned mine off, hopefully I can make the full work day without a charge. I get about 500 e-mails a day (mostly system alerts from our servers), as well as using 100+ minutes a day of voice usage. Since I've started using the Storm, I've had to charge it right after lunch each day.

hmm....i'm is still set to global and i browse, read my email(avg about 120/day), checked weatherbug a few times a day, about 60-90 mins worth of calls, AIM running in the background with several chats, and i go through 50% of the battery after 16 hrs before i plug it back into the dock.

i have my brightness down to 10, dimming off, led coverage off. Apps running are the standard BB's with aim and calendar.

EDIT: I have it connected to my 925 plantronics headset all day in which the calls were taken/made from.

I have found that setting the backlight to turn off at 10 seconds rather than 30 improved my battery life greatly.

Lightbulb Another Fix

You can now get RIM brand holsters for the Storm. These have the magnet which puts the Storm into standby when in the holster. This has had a noticeable (positive) effect on battery life. It also doesn't trip function when the phone is in the case as the other off brand holster I had did. 73

Well, after changing the global network, my battery was still dead by 7:00PM. I don't use mine nearly as much as Webmstrk9 wrote about in the above post either. Hmm... I will try the backlight/dim thing and see how tomorrow goes.

So my experience after a day with global off is that I still have 1 bar left vs completely drained yesterday.
Better not great though.

Will need to try some other settings.

I too had similar battery issues where it was turbo draining and by dinner time the phone was almost dead. After doing the .75 update this has gone away completely. The battery life for me seems to have significantly improved and I'm much happier with it.
