Default device lag/speed and thoughts

So I've had my storm for 2 weeks now, trying my hardest to get used to it and become satisfied, however I still feel I'm suffering from a severe lag that often hinders me when trying to be quick with the phone.

I've noticed as my SMS box fills up, the interface becomes extremely slow, and I see type 1-5 keys before they show up on the screen sometimes. is this normal? does anyone else experience this?

I was told by verizon if I return the phone and they see I've loaded a non Verizon OS, they will charge me the cost of the phone and keep the phone because i voided the warranty. Can anyone else confirm this? I don't want to return the device, but I may have too at this point because I dont think it acts normal

It typically takes 1-3 seconds to flip from landscape to standard, is this normal? I'm wondering if I have some faulty hardware....

so far I've cleared and turned off event logging, cleaned up the interface, and wiped the device 5-6 times. its been running for several days after a battery pull and fresh wipe with nothing more then contacts loaded. Also, my internet seems pretty slow for what should be something comparable to the Iphone? Just going to google takes 4-5 seconds to load. Any other sites typically 10 or more. I'm on 1xev

1) Have you loaded a non-Verizon OS onto the phone? If not, you have nothing to worry about. If so, just reload the latest Verizon OS onto it (you may have to downgrade).
2) How do you disable event logging. I know how to access the event log, but how do I disable logging all together.
