Default Storm Tips - Volunteers Sought - 12-12-2008, 11:57 AM

Looking for a volunteer to help me with Storm Tips. I don't have a Storm and OS 4.7 is unique as is the hardware. I have a methodology though. You should be prepared to spend at least 15 hours on this. You should not be a new user to a BB. It would help if you understood some of the issues around GPS and unlocking for use on other carriers but not essential.

You can email me at gmail or post here. I am happy to break it up into sections of that makes sense. The end result will help many I am sure.

Happy Holidays

I'd be happy to help. Here is a bit about myself:

I've previously owned the blackberry 8830 world edition with Verizon Wireless and now own the Storm 9530.

I have no experience with VZ Navigator (always used google maps)

Have unlocked my bb 8830 for world sim card use once, haven't unlocked the storm.

If you want me to help, hit me up here and let me know what I can do.

<edit> just read the part about being a new bb user... if you need extensive programming, I'd probably not be the best bet

I'll be getting my storm from vzw within the next few days, I have been using BB sing 7105t, then a 8820, then 8320 and now this one. I have unlocked all my BB's in the past. I'm also the BB admin at my company, currently at 50 BB's. I'd love and be happy to help.

I'm rather curious as to what you're looking for. Email me with more details.

I've been a Blackberry user for about 2 years, and I've been a Palm/Handspring user since 1999.

Whats wrong with asking for help? He is a moderator here and also the information goes into the FAQ here. Last time I checked this was a forum to help others not post grumpy messages.

Sorry about the delay, Stinson. Last week, when you contacted me, I was just home from the hospital from pain related to a kidney stone. I was drugged up/sleeping most of last week and only worked on the bit I sent you. If you've found another to do the work already, let me know. Hopefully I'll be able to carve out some time to work on it.

If I had the time I would love to contribute. After this week I'll be traveling for several months for work, so I can't commit. On the upside, I will get to road test a VZW Storm throughout Western Europe, hopefully it's as reliable as the 8830 I shelved.

a few tips:
-first and foremost DOWNLOAD TALKLOCK
you will HATE talking on this phone without it...there's no way to lock the screen while in a call so your cheek will constantly be muting your call, flashing to another line, calling random contacts, exiting to homescreen and attempting to open apps...don't put up with it, get talklock, it automatically locks the phone while in a call, and you can toggle between locked and unlocked while in a call, and it only takes a minute or so to install
-try to get used to NOT lifting your finger off the screen when typing, just slide until the desired letter is highlighted then click
-since there's no menu option to empty your inboxes (SMS, MMS, eMail, etc.) touch (don't click) the message at the top of the screen with one finger, then touch the one at the bottom, this highlights these messages and all those in between, then click delete to erase all the ones highlighted
-to select a single letter in you entry field, hover your finger over the word, slide slowly until the cursor is behind the letter of your choice and click--now you may edit this word
-it always good to power off and remove your battery for a minute or so once a day to clear the RAM and all that useless data that's slowing your phone down
-if a website doesn't display or function completely, try going to options then browser configuration and turning your browser identification to Firefox or Internet Explorer and seeing which one works for that site
-and most importantly play around and find your own tricks that work for you, have fun

I previously had a Curve now a Storm, and I work for VZW in a call center. I use VZ Navigator but know nothing about unlocking phones for other carriers. If you're looking for assistance, send me an email.

However as a Linux User I have no way to help with anything involving Blackberry Desktop Software. As for the phone I am always looking for and finding new things with the OS.
