I admit the first one i received was a lemon. It took one visit to a store to swap it out and I couldn't be happier. I also just set up visual voicemail and I think that alone was worth it.

Since the OS update released on 12/5/08 this device has been running much, much better. Please keep that in mind when reading reviews prior to 12/5/08. I've got one and I'm quite happy with it.

If you do get it, it may not have the newer OS loaded on it, so you would certainly want to update that right out of the box.

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile 8120)

Also, you can alway upgrade the OS at a later time.

maybe I had a "good unit" because I'm not finding the new OS to be much better at all. as a matter of fact, I'm finding new bugs to replace the old ones... and I've only been using it for a day with the new OS..

and... my bottom left screen buttons doesn't click anymore (its very difficult to feel the tactile response)

If your mother has to constantly consult you on how to use the phone she shouldn't be using it. I'm sure there's a simpler phone out there you could get her that would better suit her needs keep your free time free.
