How can I block a phone number? Called Verizon and said Sorry. Can this be done with the Storm?

Set a custom ringtone to a silent one. You cannot block numbers on a cell.

There is a program on the aftermarket section that block unwanted calls. Sorry can't remeber the name but it can be done with a 3rd party app.

I'm not sure if the storm has this option or not but on my girlfriends sidekick it has an option to block the number when making calls.

The storm, and other BlackBerry™ , have that option. But I think the OP is talking about blocking incoming calls from a specific number.
I think the 3rd pary app is called blacklist.

I am not sure about the storm, but my friend has a curve on sprint and all he has to do is login to their website and he can block any incoming number,so this might be a verizon thing and not the storm

There are a couple of call blocking software packages. One is called Berry Blocker. I am not sure if this is compatible with the Storm. Another is from Antair and is. It is pricey, but you have to decide whether it is worth it. Check and search the various Blackberry software websites (mobihand, crackberry, handango). 73

You have to admit though, this would be the perfect feature to integrate with the Blackberry OS.

A lot of carriers offer parental controls on the account (I know verizon); this allows me block numbers. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a service action rather then an hardware.

sign up at youmail. then configure to ditch the number you dont want to call you.

sign up at grandcentral and give out that number... then you really have control over what you can do when a certain number calls you

If you are talking about blocking your number so the person you are calling can't see your number just dial *67 before you call ... and the number you call will see "private number" or "blocked number" on their end.

If you are talking about blocking specific numbers from calling your number than the cheapest way (currently FREE) is to sign up for youmail as someone has already stated and just ditch certain numbers every time they call.

Hope that answers your question ... as it was kind of vague.

In the last year, some company got a hold of my cell number and sold it to a bunch of home-based callers saying that they heard I was looking to be self-employed. They call 10 - 15 times a day sometimes. On my Treo, I had a program that would send those calls directly to voice mail and I wouldn't even hear them. Not a single one would leave a message. I'd love to see the cell phone programmers program this ability right into the phone...

I just create an address book entry called "Do Not Answer" and as I get telemarketer calls, I add them to this entry (or create another one). Within about 2 weeks of starting to do this, I got 90% of them. Then I set the ring tone for this entry to silent, so all that happens is that the light comes on.

There is also a application on mobihand.com called CallBlocker that allows you to block calls and specific numbers...It may say that its not compatiable with specific models, but i have a 8320, which it's not compatiable with, but I tested it and the private/unkown calls didn't come through or even go to voicemail/just got a message about the call not being completed...It really works! I love it!

With Verizon, they have a package deal that you pay for. You pay a monthly fee and you can block incoming and outgoing calls to specific numbers. If memory serves, there is a finite number of phone numbers that you can do this to. I'm sure that's a carrier-set limitation.

But if you login to their website you can find it in the plans or account info section. Been awhile, though... can't remember for sure. Good luck!
