Default Data Plan Required with Verizon?

Please Login to Remove!

If you purchase a Storm through Verizon, are you required to also sign up for a data plan?

Does anyone know if this is true for existing Verizon customers who haven't currently signed up for a data plan with them? Would Verizon just let you buy the Storm without changing your existing plan or forcing you to get an additional data plan?

What if you're an existing customer and buying the Storm as an upgrade phone?

Does the data plan requirement still apply? If so, can you call them after say, a week, and cancel out of the data plan?

You always have to have a data plan to have a BlackBerry on Verizon. They don't allow BlackBerrys without a data plan.

OK, but what if you get the data plan and then cancel it? Will they force you to return your Storm also?

They will not let you cancel it but the BB plan on Verizon is only around 30 bucks a month and that is for unlimited use unlike a WinMo phone you have the choose of getting a 10Mb plan or unlimited data. I think the extra $$$ for the data plan is worth it, it allows you to use the Storm almost to it's full potential. I got mine back in December had a small problem with the screen and Verizon replaced it in 2 days with a new one and I haven't had any problems since.

Wirelessly posted (hope is everything!)

Only way to remove the BB data plan is to change the esn on acct otherwise they won't let you remove it

you can buy the storm, get the data plan, go online and switch back to your old phone (thus removing the bb dataplan) and then switch esn back to the storm...it works in theory...

Try it online like you say, it won't work. It will give you an error message and then it will tell you to call our customer service, which will tell you you have to have it on.

What do you want a Storm for without data?

the data plan is a pain but is cheaper than not having the plan and probly paying running up your bill by going online and paying by megabyte or whatever it is like i did with my old phone

I'm already with T-Mobile and don't want to switch over to Verizon (I have a data plan with T-Mobile currently).

You would be surprised at the people that don't, mostly with the other smartphones, but mostly young people that want the Storm without it.

With verizon its not going to happen I paid full price cash and tried to do away with the data plan and the answer is always no. They are actually requiring the data plan on all smart phones and pdas now.

FYI:

If you have *ANY* current/new Verizon Nationwide voice plan with a "Mobile Web capable device" you are required to have data.

This was a change made in the 4th quarter of 2008.

While BlackBerries led the charge (data plan required), now they're forcing others to get data plans.

Don't like it? Go to another carrier...
