1user interface is the most important part of gadgets. Is there a fast easy way to hide buttons you dont like and reorder the rest?
Menu > move or hide
1.1 why is there a half button/ half wallpaper screen instead of just buttons all the way? My wallpaper is not that important but each button is ideally a usable function i now have to dig for.
Press Menu! Full applications screen. Why? Because users demand to have room for a decent wallpaper of little Johnny.
1.2 why would they ever think every user will use every feature?
You don't like an app? Delete, hide or move it out of site. No biggie. Why? Because if, say the calculator were not installed, there would be user asking "Why wouldn't they install the calculator app up front."
2 why is there no iphone comparable 1 click into app button for common search sites like mapquest/ imdb /goodle ect. (a stored shell that you input into but no internet activity is done until you begin searching for the content.) -its really annoying to take 10 minutes to start mapquesting each time. (and yes i set bookmarks and have cookies)
You need something like Beyond411.
Why? Well, there is.
3why is (even with restrictive data settings and low res pics) the internet so ridiculously slow? (even for mobile google). phone vs net cant be that drastically different in transmission speeds.
Why? Because ITS MOBILE. And the US has a horrible mobile network infrastructure.
3.1 can it pick up my wireless router to increase speed for internet access?
The 9500/9530 Storm, no. The coming 9520 Storm, yes.
4 is the OS restricted? (because i will happily android this phone out if blackberry OS keeps me in the dark ages to protect their non existent but "potential" income (from me). or if android wont run i could happily return the phone. I don't "not like" blackberry. I'm just laying it out there. I have no allegiance. But i require function. so if they wont let me do things I'll go somewhere else. But I'd like to know what i can and cant do first.
Yes. You very well might want to stop right there and avoid the BB. It is secure first, and you won't be "androiding" any time soon.
5 Why are there so few apps on the website?
"The website"? BlackBerry.com? Because it is not an app store. That is the why.
6 can it run open source apps?
Yes.
7 what are some useful blackberry "things to know"
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_FAQ
You can spend days there.
And here: Stinsonddog's Blackberry Tips and Tricks âxxx8364;xxx381;(Blackberry Tips & Tricks from the Modsâxxx8364;xxx381;)
If you refuse to spend time reading those two websites, don't get a BlackBerry.
8 can iturn off the screen orientation feature and just leave it in widescreen mode always? (it glitches sometimes during use beacuse of minor motion)
No.
9 is there a way to "beam" my phone number and contact info to someone rather than make them manually insert it?
Bluetooth
10 what is the purpose of having the menu button open a mini menu over the menu when you hold it in?
Read on the functions of the Storm. That is the Application Switcher--quick access to your 'running in the background apps".
11 how do you close a keyboard that pops up when you dont want it? (clicking elsewhere just magnifies the screen im trying to view while keeping the keyboard up.
Menu > Hide Keyboard. Very easy to find. Do you have a Storm yet?
12 what does the application center do if there is an aplication folder also
Application Center = Get/buy apps
Application Folder = hold installed apps you prefer there and not on the main screen
12.1 why are installed aplications not made into buttons on main menu?
There are? Which ones?
13 what is vcast?
Verizon music. #1 hit when googled:
Verizon Wireless: V CAST
14 does it learn my typing habbits as i use it? (most notably v keybutton being left oriented when i hit with right thumb)
No, but SureType will learns your mispellings.
15 how do i check available memory space?
Asked and answered here THOUSANDS of times:
Options > Status and Options > Memory.
