Default Verizon and Blackberry............

Please Login to Remove!

I have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years, as has my wife, and have had a Blackberry 8830 since the day the product hit the market. My 2 year contract has expired and Verizon of course are anxious to keep me. I went in to a company owned store yesterday to play with the Storm with a view to buying one and signing a new 2 year contract. Their demo model had many faults whilst I was using it, such as switching to the clock whilst I was typing an email. The store could not figure out what was wrong. I asked them how long I had to test one out and they said 30 days, which is fine, and then they said there would be a $35.00 restocking fee if I bought it back for any reason and switched back to my 8830. I WALKED OUT WITHOUT MAKING A PURCHASE OR RESIGNING!

VZW policies are arrogant, at best. The ONLY reason that I stick sith them is that they have the best national coverage, bar none.

They could be worse, especially if you work retail (I am a manager at a GameStop), you will know that Verizon is actually pretty decent... the key is, the louder you talk/yell the more they will do for you. Which is why I tend to not get very much done since I am a bit soft spoken ha...

I am sure that if I had pushed it I would have gotten them to remove the restocking fee, especially as their demo was a piece of garbage and would not work.

I was so pissed at the whole experience that I just walked out.

Not sure what the issue is as all companies have a re-stocking fee policy. Keep in mind that most demo phones have been abused. My guess is that you will not want to return it anyway. If you do then you can negotiate with the store manager to waive the restocking fee. Remeber that you only pay that fee if you swap it to another phone. You do not have to pay it if you decide you want to switch to another carrier within the 30 days. That is a good leverage to waive the restocking fee.

Don't get worked up over the $35. You can cross that bridge when (or if) you get to it

i had the same problem with the clock thing at the store... it has a setting to revert to the clock while charging and im pretty sure that that is what is happening there. I swithced from tmobile to verizion and never had a problem with coverage from Tmobile, however, verizion is better coverage wise... but also waaay more expensive.

Michael, Verizon gives you 15 days to test drive and return without a restocking fee. That's plenty of time.

I recently made a warrant claim and got a new phone for free after 2 months of use.

I've been with the other major carriers. I feel Verizon has the best deal and coverage.

Why did not the salesperson in the Verizon store tell me 15 days and no restocking fee? That would be fine with me-15 days is more than enought time to test a phone.

Michael, upon rethinking this I am not 100% sure about the time frame. It's either 7 or 15 days.

However, I am absolutely sure there is an established time frame to return the phone without a monetary penalty. People have discussed it here and I also have actually utilized that option. When I first came to Verizon from Nextel, I started off with an LG flip phone I wasn't terribly thrilled with. When I took it back to have an issue checked the salesman noticed I didn't care for the phone and informed me I was still within the period to return it. I immediately exchanged it for a slider phone that day. No restocking fee.

Go back to VZW and ask.

Oh really, is that how it's done?

Generally, in our store, the louder you talk, the closer you get to the door.

One of the biggest complaints about our stores (I'm a VZW Corporate employee if you didn't know) is how busy they are. We are doing a number of things to try to cut down on traffic that doesnt need to be in the store. We are heavily promoting the use of My Verizon to take care of things such as price plan changes, esn changes, even ordering phones, etc, without having to come in to the stores. One of the major issues we have is people constantly bringing phones back because they want another color, or the made an impulse buy and now don't want the phone (that happens a lot with the Storm). Just as in any decision, the actions of a few unfortunatley have to affect many. We also get a lot of returns because people don't take the time to get to know their device and just give up.

The policy is 3 days, or ten minutes of air time usage, or 1mb of data usage, whichever comes first.
