I got my storm on December 29, and I really love the phone as a whole, but I have found that my battery is dieing VERY quickly. I will be lucky to get 7 hours out of it. I went in and spoke with a verizon representative about it and he said that RIM is working on the next update and with that update the battery will last longer.

Although this may be true I would really like to have the battery last longer. Today I went to school from 7 am to 2 pm and I turned the radio on my phone off for that time period. When I came back the battery wasn't dead at all. I will be the first to admit that I don't know how the radio works, but to me it seems like it kind of scans every couple of seconds and has the little diagonal arrow up in the corner every ten seconds-ish. Is there any way for me to alter the radio settings so it does this at a lesser frequency? Or could somebody help me with other ways that help my phones battery? It would be much appreciated.

Ya my storm drains really fast too lol. I use it 24/7 and have actualy had to get a charger for work/car/and home. I hope they get the battery issue fixed!

Some apps are notorious battery hogs. I never leave apps running if I am not using them and my Storm has never died on me.

I've heard occasionally stories of Storm batteries running low by mid day and I look upon them with incredulity. I've never even seen the red bars on my Storm. I SMS, MMS and make many calls. I even occasionally leave my messenger runnning.

I removed both Google Maps and VYMail, and the battery seems to be dieing slower... I have gone with the radio on for about three hours and am at a 90% charge. If things keep up I will be very happy.

I've noticed now that I'm making an effort to actually close my browser and other apps I'm no longer having battery issues.

If you see those little arrows in the upper right area of the screen flickering back and forth constantly, that tells you that your phone is using a data connection all that time. I have both Google Maps and VyMail loaded and don't have that kind of battery life at all. In fact, I'm getting real good battery life. For instance, I plugged the phone into the charger when I got home from work on Friday. By 7PM, it was full charged. Now while I don't make a ton of calls, I get about 100 emails a day, mostly from my computer servers sending out automatic status messages throughout the day to keep me informed of any problems ( 24/7 service company ). And I also browse the internet using the phone several times a day. And I've been using the Facebook app once in a while. So here it's been 48 hours since being on the charger and I've still got about 50% battery left!

If you press and hold down the BlackBerry app, you can see what apps are running. If you aren't doing anything with your phone, there should only be 5 apps running: BlackBerry Messenger, Home Screen, Phone, Messages, and Browser. Anything other than those 5 is just taking up memory and battery. Unless you have intentionally loaded apps that you want running in the background. For instance, I have the Profiler app running which automatically changes the sound profile on my phone for me at designated times.

I went from OS .75 to leaked .99 and the battery situation is 100% better. The next official OS should improve this. With .75 I could get thru the day. With .99 I can go 48 hrs with light to moderate activity. I have made some mistakes in the past and left some apps open. I have the Seidio 1600 extended battery, autostandby, I lowered my backlight brightness to 20 and timeout to 20 sec. Weatherbug -I changed the preferences to update every 2 hours and turned vingo automatic updates off. I do check what apps are running and I do see a couple extra Vymail and bblite. But often I catch my nav4all or slacker radio, viingo -hung up and I have to close. Also, i once set my bblite to stay on when out of holster by mistake.

I too had many problems with my battery. I would simply leave it on overnight and the battery would be dead the next morning. Yes, I live near a tower. No, I don't leave Bluetooth on.

But yesterday, after about 75 minutes of listening to music off Moodio, the battery went from 80% to 30%. I decided I had enough and went to a VZW store.

Unfortunately, I ran into a guy who didn't seem to know much about The Storm. I told him my situation and he tried to say I live in a poor signal area. Yeah, in the middle of a major U.S. city and right by a freeway. Nice try.

He then took my Storm and fumbled his way around and finally found the wireless upgrade screen. He saw I am on .75. After he got back to the main screen, my battery went from 30% to 15%.

That's when he warrantied out my battery.

I'm not into Beta versions, so I'm hoping they come out with an official version similar to .99. The VZW rep I dealt with didn't know anything about it. I didn't say v.99, but since he tried to do an OTA update, I thought I'd ask. But then again, if he saw I was on .75 and tried to update, he probably didn't know.

I had a problem with my Storm's battery life as well. Verizon pretended like they knew the answers, but after I decided I couldn't deal with it anymore dying by 5pm with minimal usage, I am withing my 30 and got a new one. Battery is great. Goes well into the 2nd day with heavy usage before I need to charge. Trade it in for a new one!!!

One application that potentially drains behind the scenes is Viigo. There are settings on how often it refreshes content, as well as whether is stays open behind the scenes when you navigate away from the application.
These are personal choice, but you can set it to only refresh as infrequently as once a day. And you can set it to completely close when you leave the application. If it stays open in background, it will refresh content on it's own which drains battery life.
Just a suggestion....

I have removed VY Mail and Google Maps and that fixed my problem tremendously! The battery can now last me through the day! Is it possible that one of those apps was draining my battery behind the scenes?

I'm sorry but audio / video streaming are major battery drains so your lucky to last mid day if you use those heavily as they consume alot of network bandwidth.

My tweaks and I last a solid two days and am a heavy email / txt person, worldmate live updates daily and Xberry manually throughtout the day:

Set an auto on/off scedule. I figure midnight - 5am no one is getting vital email.
Turn the screen brightness all the way down to 10% - really you won't mind
If you don't use Bluetooth - turn it off
Check application Center and turn off auto update (better yet - delete it)
Check any app you install that it doesn't auto update, set it to manual or twice a day.

Delete the following if you don't use them:
VZ Navigator
Visual Voicemail
