Default Unique Skins - WTF!!

Please Login to Remove!

I recently utilized the Unique Skins website to design a skin for my Storm. Basically my college logo.

Now I misunderstood what I was actually purchasing from this website. I was under the false impression I was getting a custom rubber skin with my college logo and name on it. This was not the case.

What I got for $10 was a couple of stickers. Cheap looking stickers that I could have made on my own with my laser printer. In fact, I've made better ones for various functions at work. Regardless of the material used, the item I got looks like a cheap sticker that would make my phone look tacky.

I am doing my best to remain objective. However I think the website is very misleading. When you use this service, you will get a hazy looking sticker. The emblem I uploaded was high resolution. In return, I got a sticker image that was noticeably pixelated. I literally opened the box, looked at this $10 sticker, slide the contents back in the box and drop it in the kitchen garbage can.

I am making this post to save forum members from the same negative experience. I really feel duped. This is one negative endorsement. Unique Skins is definitely the right title. Uniquely terrible!

Where were you misled about it being a rubber skin?

While I cannot comment on the quality of the image produced what do you consider to be "high resolution"? Nowhere on their website does it say you are receiving a "rubber skin". There is a big difference between vinyl and rubber and the website is very clear that you are getting a vinyl skin. While you may be disappointed by the image quality I don't see how their website is deceptive in any way. Additionally please go ahead and run a sheet of vinyl through your laser printer and let us know how that turns out. Have you spoken with a customer service representative from Unique Skins? Perhaps they would be willing to send you a new skin made from images of sour grapes.

Again, in the spirit of full honesty, I have conceded that I misunderstood the website in that I thought I was getting a rubber skin. That I fully admit.

But Rachamphetamine and Lumberman, I challenge you to order up and place their product on your phone. What they produce and sell is tacky at best. Additionally, it is NOT a vinyl skin as they purport on the web page. Its a set of cheap looking stickers that cover parts of the phone in small sections. NOT even one sold piece that would cover the enter rear side of the phone. Even if the image were not pixelated, I wouldn't place that "vinyl" sticker on my Storm. I understand this site probably gets a kickback for advertisement, but one of your members is telling you the product they are peddling is shabby at best. Do me a favor. Order one and judge for yourselves.

Let's take this one step further. In the order form, I was very detailed in what I desired. Those instructions weren't even followed. Evidently, the designer didn't even take a moment to look at the end result and realize something was terribly wrong. My logo was gold with a black background and I requested the rest of this so-called skin to be black to blend in with the logo. There was a white square outline where the image ended. A kid on a computer could do better.

Drummer, you are correct. Placing the cheap looking "stickers" that company sells would make your Storm look like a kids toy. Great assessment.

I would have called to complain, but overall there is nothing they could produce with their materials that I would place on my Storm. I figure my $10 gives me the right to an angry rant. Nuff said.

I can totally live with your assessment that they are tacky (and I don't mean sticky) and I wouldn't put them on my phone, you have me there for sure. Maybe I would put one on my iPod Nano...just because, but not on my BB. If they are not vinyl then are they really just paper or another plastic like sticker? They claim to use a high end 3M product. I would bet 3M would have a logo on the backing paper. If it's not vinyl then you have a big case for ranting.

Woo Saaa... LOL! After ranting this morning I was pretty much over it. $10 doesn't break my bank but it was the principle of the matter.

After thinking about it more, I retrieved the box from the garbage and consulted the one person who isn't afraid to disagree with me - the wife. Before removing the item, I explained the situation and asked for her objective opinion. When I removed the items from the box, even she uttered a few choice expletives.

Whether or not the material was a quality 3M product is not in question. Its the end result, the appearance of the product. Additionally, the company provides a short narrative section for instructions where I told them unequivocally what I wanted. Very simple. My college logo with a black background. Simply put, all I needed was a black skin with my gold college logo, which I uploaded. What I got was my logo, pixelated, with a white square outline against a black background. The rest of the skin was WHITE!!! Like someone would put that on a phone!

Now, I provided my address and phone number. If a small business such as this actually cared about their reputation, the operator would have read my instructions. Additionally, a engineer should have examined the final product and said, "Woah...this doesn't look right." Maybe even a short phone call to the customer?

Brother, I have an iPod nano that travels with me to the gym daily. I wouldn't even put this on a Nano. I am not exaggerating either. The product looks cheap. The website displays really cool looking skins. I am on the cusp of saying more but I will leave it there. Simply dissatisfied here.

Take some pictures. I'm curious to see what the final product looks like.
