|  Wiping 9530 with JL Cmder and SIM Card

When using JL Commander to completely wipe a device (I always completely wipe vs. upgrading an OS), is it necessary to power off the device and remove the SIM card? Or does it not matter?
All of my experience is with BB devices that don't have a SIM card, so to me, this has never come up before.
