Please Login to Remove!

I one for answering questions but I going to ask if anyone here has synced their BB Storm calendar with the Google calendar through Gmail?

Let me know your experience with it.

I do too, and I love it. Had some problems earlier (months ago on my 8830) with dup entries, but all that seems to be ironed out now.

I am syncing the google calendar as I type.

QUESTION:

I have an idea of how to sync entries from the BB to Google. However, If I make an entry online with Google calendar - do the entries automatically get sent OTA to my handheld?

OK, I figured out.

Pretty much gotta run sync on the phone after entries are made online.

I am new to this feature. However, does Google occasionally run its own intermittent sync during the day?

Are you manually syncing wirelessly - which I did last night - or is Google doing a wireless sync on some regular basis?

I don't mind syncing manually OTA, since I prefer making all my entries via the internet. It's alot easier to do from my desk at work which is where I generally set my schedule a couple weeks ahead at a time for meetings, conference calls, court hearings, etc.

Andy, is "auto sync" a setting in the phone or on Google?

Sorry, feeling to lazy to research on my own today.

go into your calendar then your google sync at the top of your menu and that's where you will find your auto sync options

You mean on the phone and not the website....LOL.

Found it. Thanks!

But I think this only works from the Storm to Google. When you manually enter to Google you have to manually sync on the Storm to get the entries uploaded to your phone - unless there is a setting in Google to shoot them automatically to the phone?

Calendar entries I put in online get automatically pushed to my Storm after a little while. Never timed it, but usually within an hour, I believe.

Google Sync will by default (I believe) sync your Contacts/Calendar automatically approximately every 2 hours. If you need to sync them at a certain time you can then manually sync it by opening Google Sync, hitting the BB/Menu button and choosing the Sync Now option. Most of the time I just let it sync on it's own.

There is no way to sync from the web because the Sync software does not have push capabilities. It must initiate the sync on it's own or by the user. Therefore, if you make a change online, it will not be reflected on your phone until either you choose to sync it or it automatically syncs.

Also, after some testing, I believe that if you make a modification to the same thing on your phone and online it will take whichever modification you did last. Is there anyone else who can verify this?

phlak, that sounds about right as far as the every two hours goes. I guess my use of the word "push" is not right.

Regarding calendar conflicts, that sounds right also. However, I noticed Google Sync will sometimes complain when I receive a response to a meeting request via email. The issue is that the response email (i.e. saying that an invitee is attending) is picked up and processed automatically by my gmail, then that same email gets processed by my Storm. When Google Sync runs, it gives me a warning that "Another sync client has been adding events to the Blackberry calendar. To avoid duplicates Google Sync will not keep these events up to date."

This is only a warning message and will not affect different BB calendars. Let me explain.

I have my google sync set to sync to my gmail.com calendar and have that account set as my default calendar in Options->Advanced Options->Default Services. So when I create/edit/delete entries on the BB it gets sync'd to my gmail.com calendar.

I always have event invites sent to my att.blackberry.net address so they get applied to that BB calendar. This will prevent google sync from applying them to the gmail.com calendar. But because other events are being applied to the BB calendar (any BIS calendar) google sync will complain with the warning message.

I have had no problems with google sync even though the sync message appears. The only way to prevent it is to have ALL entries done on the BB or associated google calendar and NO OTHER EVENTS on ANY of your BB calendars.

I'm having issues with getting Google Sync, it won't upload entries I add to my BB Calendar. It works just fine from Google Calendar to BB Calendar.

Anyone have the same issues?

open calendar hit options, then go to google sync. It will bring up options, in there you can set your sync settings.
